I've kept up with buying all of the Code Geass DVDs as they were released in America, but the R2 DVDs are seriously lacking.

I miss the sound dramas, CDs, and awesome booklets that came with the Limited Edition copies. Where have they gone?

They even dropped the picture dramas entirely!

Not to mention they delete all R2 picture dramas that happen to be subtitled because it goes against copyright law. If they don't even distribute the picture dramas, why should they have power when it comes to them?

Sure the extra flash specials happen to be included, but they're so basic that it might take up to an hour for them to subtitle 3 or 4 episodes.

Does anyone have any idea what is going on??

Yeah srsly, i do not get the whole deal with NOT releasing what they did release in the boxsets of S1. idk, it just does not make sense, cause moar stuff = moar money for them.

You have to remember that it costs money to add all the extras, including overhead costs and other economic considerations. Just because the extras came with a higher MSRP doesn't mean that they would necessarily make more profit by supplying them.

Geass had a LARGE fandom, and a lot of people are willing to spend money for the shiny extras, so i am not really sure about what you claim to be canon fact. But anyway, no one will ever know.

I don't claim anything to be canon fact. I said it "doesn't mean that they would necessarily" make more profit that way. None of us can know without looking at the sales figures.

Yeah ok, it was just a matter of speech.
Anyway, i think Bandai is losing anyway, cause the fans have a right to complain, in terms of comparison with the other releases anyway.

My assumption is that there simply wasn't enough people buying the R1 LE sets to justify continuing the pattern, and/or that those who were buying the sets weren't willing to pay enough for them. In other words, it turned out to be wiser financially not to offer the shiny, shiny extras.

I bought all the first season LEs, but the second season LEs are pure crap. There is no reason to keep buying them, and I am very disappointed with the money I spent on the one I've already bought, so I will not be buying them more.

Bandai is really failing. They're releasing the same 25 episodes in TWO extra DVD sets with WAY less content in a desperate attempt to get more money out of us while investing less of their own. It's just backfiring and causing people to stop investing any money in them at all.

Even the third LE set of the first series was limited in stores here; I still don't own it b/c I can't find it in stores. There are tons of copies of every other set though, for some strange reason.

I've had the opposite problem! We had 3 of the third LE set, and one of the first at the store I usually shop at last time I checked, and I never saw the second. :\ So I dunno.

Either way, the extras make such a different, I don't get what's the happs with Bandai these days.

i buy the "LE" R2s cuz i can safe a few bucks on the manga that's included.

I'm still srsly thinking of burning the crap english dubbing Dramas from the first season. There was no way in hell i wanted such stuff.

I would have loved another artbox for R2 tho. So they'd sorta match.

Yeah, and it doesn't even look like we're going to get a shiny box with volume 4 of R2 either. As has been stated, they probably wound up losing too much money on the extravagant R1 LEs, so they had to cut back for R2.

What would be cool is if they did a 5th release that contained a series box + a DVD with all the picture dramas + all the audio dramas on CD.

Or even something separate with the picture/audio dramas for people who bought the DVDs or watched it on Cartoon Network. :|

I am fine with them not including the PDs so long as they stop making us take down our subtitled versions of them on the Internet.

I really was hoping for the belly dancer PD to be dubbed.

For all the reasons stated above, and... Probably too much money spent on something that won't be in the hands of many people. And, let's be honest, a lot of the extra content in R2 is pretty ridiculous/crack/fanservice/etc. For example, as much as I love the sound drama about all the girls trying to figure out something Lelouch could beat Suzaku in-- it wouldn't be worth the money. It would involve almost every female voice actor, plus JYB and Yuri, ending up in a lot of money for recording and voice acting on something not many people might even get since it's just an extra in a LE box set. And that's just one track.

I mean, I would have loved to see all the extras, especially since that would make the boxsets actually worth all the money? but, uh. Yeah. Though at least they're giving us something. In some other companies' DVDs their "extras" are just trailers for series licensed under the same company, basically ads, and maybe one dvd commentary.

Some PD subs are here, in the 1-7 batch torrent.
Don't forget to only check to download the res you want (720p is the usual)

Considering the fact that the US fanbase for Code Geass kind of sucks, and that you can still buy the S1 LEs on Bandai's site, it's not economical for them to dub and release all of the sound or picture dramas.

Anime as a whole is kind of failing in this economy anyways, so while I am sorely disappointed, I am not surprised.

Same. I'm also worried about the release dates? I thought the third R2 boxset was supposed to be out already, but amazon says it won't be released until January... :(
Date/Time: 2009-12-28 19:11 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] mossygirl.livejournal.com
That's business as usual for Bandai these days; pretty much *everything* is delayed at least once x.x
Date/Time: 2009-12-28 19:17 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] mossygirl.livejournal.com
It's more like, "Is the U.S. anime industry falling through?" The economy's not been nice to businesses, and anime companies are no exception to that. The extras on CG were probably not profitable enough on the first season to support doing them again on the second.

... Which is too bad all around, because the lack of picture dramas in any form (just subbed would be OK with me) means that I for one am waiting on buying R2 until I can get it for really cheap, whereas I bought the S1 LE sets relatively soon after they were released.

Maybe they want to release the extra separately.
