Gigazine.net has news that the third season of Code Geass will (possibly) air this winter (thus, the new merchandise). No word if Code Geass: Bokoku no Akito is still the title.
doesn't the winter season start around january for japan tv? the akito website still has 'temporary' next to the title, so it always seemed like it was just a working title...but they could still keep it. :)
The winter season usually starts Dec/Jan, depending on the titles. There's usually two/three series started in Dec, then a bunch of them in Jan. Like if you look at Fansub Wiki's Fall Season schedule (http://www.fansubwiki.com/Who_Subs_What:_FALL_2011). Fall will start in Oct, so they'll end in Dec, meaning the winter series will begin at the end of Dec and beginning of Jan.
The problem is that the site that listed it is Megahobby, a figure website. The website basically said, in the description for that Emperor Lelouch figure that was posted about in a previous comm post, that "due to a new series coming this winter demand will be high for the figure" or something like that. So it's not official in the least.
Ozaki himself did say at Otakon that it would be out "next year" but was behind schedule. So the winter does make sense, if it begins airing in January. Still, yeah, it's just a description for a figure, so not sure how accurate it is.
Haha, well, I was the one who wrote that ANN article. I tried to be careful to note that it was according to a specific website, and exactly what that website said - just presenting the facts without insinuating anything. The source is certainly enough to report on, but not to state it as fact, which was what I was going for. Ah well.
Ah, that makes sense then. (And now I see that you stated that already in the comments -_-;)
Though, you might want to edit this post, so it doesn't look like Gigazine is claiming that. They literally only wrote that the possibility of that is rising.

They never definitely stated that it would air this winter, just that it's a possibility. They were pretty careful to word it that way.
Even the title is worded as a question. ("Will the new Code Geass series start airing this winter?")
I think they just wanted to create some buzz and get hits for their site.
