Apologies if this sort of post has already been mentioned. But I'm really curious with why people hate dislike certain characters from Code Geass.

Personally I really don't like Shirley. I could pull out the generic character card, but there are a lot of characters that can apply to this (I'm looking at you, Euphemia/Lacus clone). But to be realistic, not EVERY single character in Code Geass is going to be original. Hell, some say Lelouch is a Light rip-off. I would hate her less if she wasn't set up to be a romantic possibility for Lelouch. But I just don't like her personality type. Though, to be superficial, what the character looks like is also a factor ^^; For example, I actually don't think Euphemia is all that bad.

Basically, state the character that you hate/dislike and explain your reasoning. I'm interested in those who aren't fond of Suzaku (I'm sort of surprised why some do). It can be anything as long as it isn't incoherent character bashing.

Ahh...Shirley...I didn't like her. Like, the first time she popped up on the screen, something in my head went. 'I hate her.' like, she didn't even have to speak before I knew I wouldn't like her, ever. And I was right, as soooon as she started talking I was like, 'I hope...a broken robot arm...falls on you D: Right now....right now!' She just, and I HATE comparing anime's, but she just reminded me WAY to much of Tohru Honda from Fruits basket...Seriously. She was just SO annoying, too attached, too emotional, just plain annoying, if she wasn't crying she was being nosy about something, if she wasn't being nosy she was just being plain obnoxious. Dunno...Didn't like Nina either, and we all can probably guess...she was a crazy...crazy woman. The whole...getting it on...with the corner of a table thing...yeah, that just messed me up from that moment on. Like I already didn't like her, but that not only creeped me, it just messed me up. Especially 'cos I was like '....Who...what..Oh its Nina okay well what is she do-OH...OH GOD...'

Suzaku...he had his 'I kinda hate you' moments, but overall I liked him. I just didn't like how much of a hypocrite he could be...or the fact that he seemed to think that Lelouch was just like, killing everybody because he can, he didn't know the real reason for it and quite frankly, it didn't seem like he cared too much. Yet, he was sort of going through the same Lelouch was, as soon as Euphemia died, he was like 'REVENGE!' and thats how Lelouch was, it just took him some time.

Lelouch haters make me wonder though...I dunno, I don't see how you could hate him that much..Dunno...Like, at first he started out really like, good about his idea, 'Okay I'm going to take down Brittania and make it a good place for my sister and stuff' Okay, thats solid...but I think as time went on, all the death and then his Geass and C.C. and stuff, wore on his mind after a while. All the stuff piling up just wore down on him, having to pretend not to be like the worlds most wanted man, then your friends getting messed up, you find out your best friend is piloting another machine that's not only tried to kill you, but ruin your plans and kill everyone else, his mother was killed by his own father and family, everyone thinks he dead. All that kinda stuff, so I guess I cant be mad at him for finally snapping. But yeah...aside from the Emperor, Shirley and Nina...Oh and V.V just for now, 'cos V.V just pissed me off, ruining everything...OH OH OH AND I ALMOST FORGOT...Jeremiah...Oh my god...I wont lie, he's got nice hair..and he's kinda cool looking..but by the last episode I was like 'OH MY GOD SOMEONE, SHOOT HIM, PLEASE?' his constant cries of ZEERROOO made me wanna hit someone...Oranji-kun...crazy freak D: And..Euphemia wasn't too fond of...I didn't like her but I didn't hate her...I wasn't like 'EUPHEMIA I WANT YOU IN EVER EPISODE' but I wasnt like '=D Blow her up please~' But yeah aside from Nina, Shirley, Emperor buttface, V.V. and Jeremiah and a little dislike for Euphemia...I'm okay with everyone..especially Lloyd and Ceile...they made me laugh..and Milly...BUT WHATS GREAT...is I have YET To find ANYONE who hates one of my favorite characters in the entire anime: THE CAT! <33333 (Does that even count as a character though? I can see why they are alike-unsatisfied and bored hot teenage genius is suddenly granted the power in which they try and change the world around them postively yet ruthlessly using terror for their own arrogant reasons, and the mysterious being that granted them that power loves a certain type of food. But really...that's it.
For one thing, they're different character archetypes. Raito strikes me as "the Dostoyevsky-esque intellectual", in the tradition of Raskolnikov and Pyotor Verkovensky. His desire to prove his own existence and his ideology are what blinds him and drives him, ultimately, to commit such extreme, dangerous acts. On the other hand, Lulu is more of a tragic hero. He can reach the Kira-level of ruthlessness, in fact, he does that lots and lots of times in the series; but he actually retains some of his humanity. He knows some of the things he does is wrong, still feels attatchment towards his family and friends, and he feels regret for his actions. He's also doing this for revenge. The classic tragic-hero-motivation. With the way CG is going right now, it's all one big avenge-fest. Even at the end of episode 23, Lelouch's statements reminded me of this one passage from Macbeth: "I am in blood/Stepped in so far that, should I wade no more,/Returning were as tedious as go o'er."-he's so engulfed in this that he can't get out, and accepts this and keeps going. While that could also apply to Raito, too, seeing as how he would never really consider going back, it's more of a Lelouch thing.
Not to mention that the Geass and the Death Note both are different in how they affect its user...the Death Note is much more detatched. If you ask me, looking someone directly, asking them to kill themselves, and then actually witnessing them doing it is much more intense than writing a name down and hearing on the news that they died of a heart attack the next day.

But even though they are really different under the surface, I admit it's rather fun to discuss...hence my rambling. Even for its comedic value. I SAW A LELOUCHxRAITO FANART ONCE AND IT WAS SO AWESOME AND I JUST WENT ALL FANGIRLY (which, if you know me-and I doubt a lot of people in this comm do-me going into fangirl mode is rather rare :).

BUT. ANYWAYS.
I'm going off-topic.
To answer the question, there's not really any characters I loathe that much...even if I have a "meh" attitude to them, I could usually point out a few redeeming traits that I like about them and appreciate their contribution to the plot.
I understand why some people might not like Suzaku, but when I had entered in the fandom, I never knew there was just so much. [livejournal.com profile] sapphira_angel explained it beautifully. And it's just so interesting to see Lelouch's character and Suzaku's character juxtapositioned together-their actions have more of an effect because they have a foil to build off from, yet there's this realization that their characters are so similar, too. Remember that one episode where they were basically making the same speech in unison, yet alternating?
One of the weaknesses of Geass, I think, is that it has so many diverse characters but yet in its timeframe, doesn't develop every single one of them as much (hopefully we'll see more in season 2!). Lelouch and Suzaku are really the most developed characters of the show, maybe that's why I like them more.

I do like Shirley...not as much as other characters, but I find that arc with her and Mao interesting and touching.

But if I really do have to choose...those people in episode 1 who were gathered around the truck crash. I agree with Lulu: "Idiots." Well, at least they made Lelouch actually play the hero and go into the truck to save them therefore in a consecutive chain of events gets the Geass?

The thing is, while I do understand that he's also a quite confused and contradictory character and that his actions weren't because of his meanness, I still can't stand him. I used to like him. But episode 25 just totally ticked me off. I know he's got his reasons, but srsly? Who would you believe, this random kid that popped out of nowhere, telling you about this supernatural power called Geass, or your friend whom you've known since seven years ago? I know he's angered, I know he's very much unhappy and in need of reason, yet, doesn't Lelouch even deserve the benefit of doubt?

Also Kallen. I really like her throughout the series(except for the fanservices), but her reaction in 25 totally disappointed me. Before she was willing to work for this unknown masked man to the extent of doing anything to protect him, yet all that devotion just went poof! Because of what? Because Zero is Lelouch. Her reaction surprised me even more than Suzaku. Suzaku's anger was very much expected(although he IS a bit extreme with the 'ZOMG UR EXSISTENCNE IS WRONG!1!1!!!!1! part), but Kallen? I mean, she and Lelouch weren't on SUCH bad terms. Lelouch likes to tease her, she teases him back. I really can't think of any reasonable explanation for her behavior...except maybe...she remembered the gender-exchange festival. Now that would be logical.

I'm not sure how to look at his kindness. Sometimes I think his kindness is actually kindness, but then the next thing he does makes me think it was manipulative xD

:D;; I don't mean to argue or start anything, but I'll point out that Suzaku was justified in episode 25 because he's suspected all along that Lelouch is Zero. From the start he draws a parallel between his friend and Zero, who rescues him, even if at that point it was a totally innocent and random comment, further evidence clues him in though he chooses to turn a blind eye or have faith in Lelouch. He has been giving him the benefit of the doubt throughout the series. The drama episode also reveals his last-ditch attempt to work things out with Lelouch regarding Euphemia's plan, but Lelouch really shoots him down. By the end, they both have the right to be angry and rash.

...I can't explain Kallen though, I don't think about her nearly as much and her fanservice annoys me. XD; Hopefully she'll pull it together soon.

I don't like Karen or CC. I don't really care about Lelouch either way (but I get a great amount of enjoyment when things blow up in his face).

But the only character I *really* don't like is Nunally. Because she is so. Very. Boring.

When I first saw Kallen..she sorta annoyed me. But as I progessed further in the series I began liking her a bit. Especially since she kicked ass. But then around episode 19 when she solely became Zero only, then I got annoyed at her again. All she seem to do was 'Zero! Zero!' and yap about that. It was really annoying. They don't really explain why she believes in Zero so much. Then in episode 25, when she sees Lelouch she's like 'NO WAY!!' and so shocked. That was kinda annoying as well.. But I don't hate her. I like her at her Ashford Academy times too.

The second character I disliked was Nina. Her..night scene pretty much scared me, but then after episode 21 when she was talking to Euphemia, I felt like 'Hey, maybe she isn't so bad after all. She's pretty cute when she's not going crazy for Euphie'. and then by episode 25 when she pretty much tries to blow the school it was more like pity for her.

Shirley....I didn't like her the first episode but after that I liked her actually. I felt bad for her and wished people would stop hating her so much. She's a pretty deep character and she really cares for Lelouch. However, I think SUNRISE sorta pulled the whole amnesia plot too long...

Diethart...well..he's more like creepy to me. But a nice character to the insane cast of Geass.

Suzaku...believe it or not, I used to dislike him. Well, I liked him, then I disliked him around episode 7-9 since he just seemed...boring. I wanted explanations for his actions, I hate those characters with no explanation for what they're doing, then episode 11 with his daddy trauma first peeking out? I got interested, and by episode 16 I was totally in love with him. He was so in-depth and possibly more unstable in the mind then Lelouch. He's a hypocrite, but so is Lelouch. He's really nice opposite of Lelouch who often shows his darker side and hide his white side. In contrast, Suzaku tries so hard to hide his darker side and show his whiter side. I do admit, I have been frusterated by him and wished to give him a slap to the head, and when episode 25 came out..well..you can say I was really angry to him. What he said was horrible, yes, but if you look from Suzaku's eyes..I'm sure he was pretty much not in the right state of mind by then. Then picture drama 9 came out...and I really loved it. I was glad to know he cared for Lelouch as well.

I don't hate any of the characters really, and I actually love all of them, annoying side and all. ♥

I forgot to add that, if you take the whole Zero, I love you (which is kinda interesting since they overdo it and makes me laugh) that I love Kallen. She kicks ass and she can so totally pwn Zero if she wanted to in a fight. XD; I would hate to see her die.... And I also like the awkward relationship with Suzaku she has. XD;

Hmm. I don't really hate/dislike any characters in Geass. But, I had quite a few in the past.

Firstly, it was Shirley but, I've warmed up to her more. She can be quite annoying still.
Secondly, was Suzaku. At times you want to shoot him still. I absoutely LOVE him. I think his one of the most adroable characters in any show. ..The same with Lelouch. Though, he's not adorable, lol.
Thirdly, was C.C. I don't find her very cool.

I hate Shirley . . . her Lulu obsession drives me nuts x_x And she's also annoying, nosy, and always brings people trouble, especially Lulu. She's also the useless type >_> Also emo! Gaaaaahhhh x_x

The only thing I appreciated about her is that she's not that bias and kindhearted, like when she easily accepted Suzaku to be part of the student council even if he's Japanese.

Another character I hate is Nina >_> I usually hate the moe girls with glasses type x_x And her obsession to Euphie seriously scares me x_x She's CREEPY!!!!!!

Man, Lelouch and Euphie had the worst stalkers >_> Oh I forgot about Mao x_x Mao would have been okay if he wasn't retarded enough to think of slicing C.C. to fit her in a suitcase x_x

I also dislike the emperor . . .heck, who does? O_o

I don't think I hate any of the characters to be honest. Or really dislike any of them. Sure they all have their bad points and good points, but that's what people are like. I mean nobody is perfect and they'd be flawed if they didn't. I didn't warm to Lelouch at first, considering how most people seem batshit crazy about him. He was fine, but there was nothing spectacular that drew me towards him. He grew on me as the series went on though. :\

I suppose considering them all, Villetta and Ogi are probably the ones I'd consider saying meh about. The whole relationship with them just didn't interest me, get back to the main plot plz thnx. Although I have to give Villetta points for stabbing/shooting (can't remember D:), him and for her comment about the wild sex she was forced to endure. Oh, and Rivalz kinda bugs me too. He just seems a little pointless, but then we don't know much about him either.

Lelouch can't be a Light rip-off, because that implies there's something to rip off. Light is a flat character with only two traits: one, he's a strategic genius; two, he believes that killing in the name of justice is okay. Beyond that, he's got virtually nothing-- everything he does is part of one or both of those traits. I suppose you might be able to argue a third trait, arrogance, but that doesn't exactly make him a solid character. And certainly not the first to have those traits =P

Lelouch is also a "strategic genius*," and he believes that some killing in the name of justice is okay, and he's arrogant. But he's a level up in complexity because at least he feels guilty and/or conflicted, especially when it comes to hurting friends or family.

(* How much of a strategic genius can he be when something like THREE times he basically says, "Argh, why have they used their trump card (Lancelot) just when I was about to win?! I didn't plan for that even though I knew it existed!")

The only characters that I really hate are Nunnally and Nina. Nunnally because she continues to mess up Lelouch's plans (really, I'd like her to die just so that Lelouch can throw away his humanity and go completely batshit insane), and Nina because she's a fucking waste of space (well...uh...pencil and paper space).

The Emperor is ugly and V.V. seems like the classic "LOLZ HAI GAIZ IM HERE 2 SCREW THINGZ UP"-type character, so I don't like them either, but they don't get enough screen time for me to hate them...yet.

Don't particularly like C.C. after the way she treated Mao.

I'm kinda meh on Shirley and the rest of the Ashford gang.

The same goes for the Britannian military peeps, as well as the Black Knights.

Rather conflicted about Suzaku.

Now that I think about it, I'm not sure I like any of the characters besides Lelouch. But I love Lelouch so much that it makes up for my disinterest in the rest of the cast, apparently.

Mmm in order:

1- C.C (She's annoying to me, she's pretty but...so?)
2- Nunnally (I really can stand her, she and her "onii-sama", "onii-sama" all the time)
3- Lelouch (Mmm I really hate him in the last two episodes, before I didn't care about him but...)
4- Kallen (I don't like her because of the sex toy thing, there's a lot of merchandise about her and C.C...and the others girls? Cornelia, Villetta, Shirley, Milly, Cecile? They're awesome!!)

I love Suzaku and Shirley the most!

And it's not because I think she's pointless (although her part in the story is ...less than needed) or because her character sucks.

SHE JUST REALLY FREAKS ME OUT MY GOD. Everytime I see her on the screen I LOOK FOR A HIDING PLACE.

I didn't like Shirley at first with her naive school-girl crush type character, but starting with her father's death I've really liked where her story line is going. I don't want her to end up with Lelouch, because I'd just hate her again, but I think she'll play an interesting role. I like how she confronted Lelouch and is piecing things together.

And although I don't like her paired with Lelouch, I still think the kiss scene is quite good, if not shocking. But Lelouch really needed to be shocked, I think. Plus she's really the first one who makes him feel guilty.
