Apologies if this sort of post has already been mentioned. But I'm really curious with why people hate dislike certain characters from Code Geass.

Personally I really don't like Shirley. I could pull out the generic character card, but there are a lot of characters that can apply to this (I'm looking at you, Euphemia/Lacus clone). But to be realistic, not EVERY single character in Code Geass is going to be original. Hell, some say Lelouch is a Light rip-off. I would hate her less if she wasn't set up to be a romantic possibility for Lelouch. But I just don't like her personality type. Though, to be superficial, what the character looks like is also a factor ^^; For example, I actually don't think Euphemia is all that bad.

Basically, state the character that you hate/dislike and explain your reasoning. I'm interested in those who aren't fond of Suzaku (I'm sort of surprised why some do). It can be anything as long as it isn't incoherent character bashing.

[Edit: Dislike is a better way to put it. Doesn't mean you can't hate either xD]

D: Suzaku-haters make me sad! I adore him tons and tons. He's a very subtle character, and he's pretty crazy, but it's not as blatant as, say, Lelouch's psychosis. Yes, he's a hypocrite, but that's part of what makes him so interesting. Lelouch has two sides - the ruthless rebellion leader, and the caring brother/friend. Suzaku is no different. He's made up of all sorts of layers and what you see throughout the series is not the whole picture. He's friendly, caring, kind, protective, righteous - but he's also cynical, impulsive, brash, and selfish. He's not really the epitome of the Honorable White Knight, just like Lelouch isn't merely the Menacing Black Prince. Neither of them are good people, but they're not outright horrid either. They've got good points and bad points, like anyone else. The big difference is that Lelouch acknowledges what he does wrong and how he acts in his own interests, while Suzaku needs to think of himself as good and pure-hearted in order to live with himself. But by the end, Suzaku is facing the facts and showing more of his true personality. He's such an intricate character, but the details tend to be lost and he's taken for face-value. :\

Er, rant aside, I don't think I hate anybody in the series. Or at least, hate would be a strong word. XD; I'm not fond of Schneizel because he reeks of Scheming Rat Bastard and as of now has no redeeming qualities. I don't like V.V. either for the same reason, though he's more of Bratchild. Lloyd grates on my nerves at times, but he can be amusing too. I've only recently begun to see Kallen in a positive light (her constantly being sexualized annoyed me and for a long time she was just a pair of walking boobs and boring personality).

I have no idea what to think of Schneizel. At the start of the series, I think we were meant to think he was evil from what other characters said.

And now he's all kind and gentle and I'm like

WTF ARE YOU GOOD OR BAD O_O

Well, to me at least, his kindness is creepy and foreboding. XD; He's been shown to be manipulative and ambitious, not necessarily evil, but I just...don't like him. But since this is Geass, I wouldn't be surprised if something was revealed in S2 that makes me sympathize with him.

I'm not sure how to look at his kindness. Sometimes I think his kindness is actually kindness, but then the next thing he does makes me think it was manipulative xD

What could you sympathise with about Schneizel I wonder. He was um... abused. By Odysseus. xD

I totally agree with you on like, everything.

Hurrah! Fandom needs more people who get Suzaku. There's a lot to unpack in his character and I find his dual nature more fascinating than Lelouch's, but I'm just completely biased there.

Don't forget his abs.

Suzaku has abs, Lelouch doesn't xD

Suzaku WINS! :D

i like your... explanation? of suzaku's character. it gives me a deeper look at his character, cus with my lulu bias i'd probably not bother to think FOR suzaku that much. tho it's not like i think FOR lulu that much xD im on his side simply cus he's... voiced by junjun >.> *gets smacked*

anyway... hope sunrise will try to show more of suzaku's delicacy in the future anime... not just leaving it all to the other media (manga, drama, novel... who the hell are gonna read/listen to all those -_- not a die-hard fan) or maybe they did show his delicacy but i just didnt care enough to pic them up and think through them =/

but what, it's deemed to be a sad story >< im thinking just hoping all of them would have a happy end would be too much of a wish...

XD; Sadly, I think about Suzaku's side of things the most. I didn't like him much in the beginning when he really started to fall into the 'FOR RIGHTEOUS JUSTICE' role, but when I found out he killed his father I had to stop, go back, and look at him again from the start with a different view. There's actually a lot revealed about him and it all matches up.

Yeah, there won't be a Happily Ever After for anyone, I think. The series sets you up with these notions of black and white, but they blend throughout. There's a lot of emphasis placed on the good and evil that exist within humans. To have an ending where good triumphs would completely undermine everything so far.
