Hey all,

I was hearing some disturbing rumors from Anime Boston today that season 2 has BEEN LICENSED. Now I don't know if this is official or not, but according to some dialogue at the industry panel today:
[20:31:06] do you have R2?

[20:31:11] yes, we will be handling R2 as well

Source: http://envirosphere.com/
I talked to a guy who was at the panel who heard this information directly.

Well folks, I hope this does not seriously impact us getting timely fansubs.

I just assumed that season 2 was licensed when they got season 1.
Maybe only ADV (so much hate for them right now) does that.

Usually seasons/OAVs/movies/etc are all licensed seperately, if for nothing else than they won't know how well the first season will sell.
If they did grap R2, they must be expected a massive hit.

...on the other hand, what's the pin? it'll take them the whole year to finish season 1 anyway...

well ADV did grab the 2nd season of Tokyo Majin, when they licensed Act 1.
So I wouldn't think it to be unusual.

I agree with that statement on so many levels right now. Thank you for showing me I'm not alone.

well i'm sitting here with 1 out of 6 DVDs for Tokyo Majin. Since due to some stupid human error about ironically licensing DVD 2 was delayed, and since they were all already extremely SLOW with releasing DVDs, something like 1 every 2 months... I find myself still with only DVD 1. It is quite annoying. I'm sure there are tons of people annoyed with ADV Films.

But when they announced acquiring Tokyo Majin, they said that (at the time not aired yet in Japan) Act 2, which killed the limited fansubs of that series. So I think i'm in the right to hate them right now. ^^

Maybe THIS IS BRITANNIA! FITS MORE. Y/Y?

Like this is a joke right? I mean, Sunrise had already murdered us from the cliffhanger in last season and the long wait and this shenanigan happened.

;__; Why? Why for the love of donuts why?

AnimeNewsNetwork would normally have said something by now, so I'm fairly positive it's not true. :\ For all we know, this could be a mix-up and/or different series entirely. I'll ask on the forums, but I'm fairly positive that I'll get a "no, it's not been licensed." That would count as an announcement, so.

The page won't load for me, btw. And even if it is licensed, well then, oh well. 8| Win some, lose some, I guess.

thats insane!!! its way too early to license r2

hopefully this is just a rumour

If it's licensed, it's licensed. :x And the fansubbing groups who respect licenses won't touch it.

We should be thankful it's licensed, if it is. I can't understand the people in here who are complaining about this, this should be a good thing. Means it will come out quicker. And I hope if it is licensed that all fansub groups will respect this and leave this series alone!

You know, US isn't the only country in the world. If US licenses Code Geass, it doesn't mean that fansub groups all over the world should stop fansubbing it.

Moreover, as kitsune_no_ame said, not everyone has access to US DVDs.
And not everyone want to listen to a crappy dub.

Just to say something since I "started" this "thing"

1)It's not about the money. I think I spend enough on official products to support the artists I love. I'm not one of those "Hmpf why should I pay for sth that's available for free"-leechers.
(nor is it about the region, I know who to set a DVD player yes sir)

2)I'm TRULY planning on getting CG DVDs. When released in MY language that is.
I don't like US dubs, so I'll end up watching the subs. But that's no change from fansubs. I'd rather wait for a French or German edition so I can at least also enjoy the dub.

3)Meanwhile I wish I could still have my fansubs. Because Europe doesn't have US's speed when it comes to license & release.

YES I buy what I DL (if I like it. If I don't like it I don't DL it. Period.)
So I don't have any qualms whatsoever DLing. Sorry I'm not satisfied with summaries and caps.

well....season 1 was licensed too.....but this didn't change anything.......you know what I mean......

This show is so popular that there will be subs anyway. I wouldn't worry too much about the subs. I do find it exciting though that there is enough interest in the show even before it's been released in the US for it.

So for people who can afford DVDs/don't live in the US, you'll get the show. :b There are always fansubs. (It just might mean some more lucrative groups will do it.) Remember- Geass was liscenced before 24/25, and we still got those subs.

For people who say it's too early, you should know that Sunrise=Bandai pretty much. It's safe to assume that Bandai could licence any Sunrise anime whenever they want, and if it's a successful anime then they 101% will. In fact they had the rights to season 1 long before they even announced it. They also have the rights to all the manga and light novels...

Everyone and their dog knows that there will always be fansubbers that don't care. Also if we're whining about such things, maybe we should have a lock? Just saying.
Date/Time: 2008-03-22 16:24 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] spleener.livejournal.com
If there's sufficient demand for fansubs, someone will fansub it. Something as popular as Geass is bound to be picked up by a group that doesn't care about licensing.

Yep, that's right. I went to panel as well, and they said anything official that's Code Geass (anime, manga, light novels), Bandai Entertainment has it. I saw lots of Geass shitajiki's and stuff in the Dealer's Room, and I think the Bandai table had a Code Geass clock as well...selling for $115. Lots of people at the panel, but I only saw a C.C. and a Lloyd being cosplayed.
They also told us that we should have known because they were putting Pizza Hut in other videos months before the license was announced. Pizza Hut partnership with the release would be fun, but they don't know about that one yet either. And I don't believe they'll be going after the fansubbers. When episode 25 came up, the reps were all *cough cough*you haven't seen it right*cough* about it.
