It's a mystical, magical thing. It takes direct eye contact for the geass to work. Anything in the way makes it un-work.

I don't think it's a matter of messing with the light, but if you wanted to argue that, then yes a lens would significantly disperse the light moving outward from the eye. Because the point of a lens is to take a massive amount of light and focus it small for your eye, opposite would take the focused light and throw it everywhere. Rightright?

But Mao's Geass is always on, so shades for him doesn't do anything to the Geass. I don't think so anyway O_o;;

Ahah, now the lens thing makes sense. Sort of. xD

Mao wore shades to screw up Lulu's geass, not his own, I think. He was trying to prevent his mind being controlled, not stop himself from reading others', right?
