Hey guys, let's get some good discussion going here!
I especially want to hear everyone's thoughts on the way Lelouch manipulated Rolo (oh, and I guess that is the official spelling now). Is it not what the majority of us predicted?
This episode confirmed what I've known since the second episode of the first season: Lelouch is evil, and there is little redeemable in him. He's just a power-hungry, sadistic tyrant.
I fear for Nunnally if and when she is enlightened to her brothers actions. Her rejection of his ideals might be the end of her. And Rolo will end up victimized again.
As for Lelouch, he'll get his, just like Light in Death Note. The only good he'll bring is the chance to take the Emperor (and C.C. &V.V.) with him.
Suzaku will be the hero you're meant to be, ending the Black Knights and Zero. Britannia will end-up changed from the inside afterwards, and be worth the Eleven's loyalty.
Oh Lelouch's mistakes will come back to haunt him (they always do), but if you're expecting this to be a Death Note ending for Lelouch with Suzaku as the hero standing in the end...well, I'm very skeptical about that.
And I still don't see how Lelouch is evil and unredeemable. Nor has his love for Nunnally lessened. There is no way you can compare Light with Lelouch. Light didn't have a "Nunnally". That is the one factor that makes Lelouch human. And dangerous too. He would *never* hurt her intentionally, not even if she disagreed with his ideals. Of course, he's hurt her plenty unintentionally. That's the irony of everything he does.
I don't know. So far, everything Britannia has done is justifiable. Ignoring the Emperor, since he's still relatively an unknown, most of the Britannian we've seen live and fight honorably, and have no special hatred for Elevens. I mean, even a high-up like Darlton supported Suzaku's knighthood.
Meanwhile, everything the Black Knights have done is nothing but violent terrorism, and as mastermind, Zero is responsible. Twice, he's pulled the same dishonorable stunt; what I call "pulling the carpet from under their feet." I understand Lelouch couldn't win an honorable duel against Gilford, and that's why he doesn't follow through. He wants to make the world a better place for Nunnally, but at what cost? Given his personality, he won't stop with Britannia. One of my guesses is that Li Xingke knows this. It's not only that; he seems to be very much in love with his power, and while he may not so much at this point, I can see him developing a stronger loyalty to his own power.
Of course, that's just me. I'm probably the only one here disgusted with the Black Knights, and rooting for Britannia. Suzaku!
So I guess it comes down to who you think is wrong/bad. I can see how if you believe the BK are wrong then Zero is the worst of them and is evil. I don't think the BK are right always. They aren't really the "good" side...I don't believe there is a a good side in this show. But I have to say I'm biased against Britannia and think the opposite about them than you do. To me Britannia is a tyrannical dictatorship that treats the Japanese (they don't even call them that they still call them Elevens...how demeaning is that?) like dirt. Even the Honorable Britannians are treated like second-class citizens for the most part. So I can't blame the Japanese for wanting to fight Britannia. I see the BK as freedom fighters for the most part. That's not including Zero though, because his motivations are totally different from the BK. Of course, even the BK have done questionable things though. They are certainly no angels. But they do what they must. They're a small group against an empire...they don't have much choice but to use guerrilla war tactics and anything else they can use to their advantage. And even though I view Britannia that way, I don't view all Britannians as evil. The show has shown various examples of really good Britannians. So it's definitely not all black and white.
LOL. Poor honorable Guilford. He was so shocked and angry when Zero pulled that stunt. Alas, this is Zero we're talking about. He probably should have expected some trick.
