Apperently episode 9 of Geass is being postponed from it's June 1st airing due to the earthquakes in China.

I read the thread. Some of the members are well, erm...I don't bother to say it.

Least they're showing sympathy and condolences. We've been tortured well enough with the waits for code geass 24 and 25 and the wait for r2.

So, we'll manage...right?

Aww... bad news, but I think it's only right for them to postponed it. But at least, not for a few months ^^

good for them. just makes the wait all the more exciting

Well, so far, it's only a wait. Mmmm. What are we waiting on the next episode of R2? At least it's nothing big and bombastic.

Thanks for sharing. I don't get all the hate in that thread O_O it's only a week, did they not watch the series when we had to wait for felt like an eternity for episode 24&25!?

Well, it sucks we'll have to wait but at least it's only a week. However, I DO worry that this is going to throw the whole geass schedule off a bit. Remember a new anime series is set to begin right after CG ends. They are most likely not going to delay that premiere (especially if it's Gundam 00). It would sucks if the final episode is delayed until they find another airing spot for it. But maybe that won't happen.

Actually, while not Code Geass, Japan has delayed the new anime season start over earthquakes. ^^; It happened in 2001. Though in that case I want to say the earthquakes in question actually took place in Japan.

I also think there was possibly a delay one week with original Seed, but I can't remember now.

Well that's too bad, anyway I can wait a week, it's not like I'm going to die.

At least it's only a week, and not the months we had to wait for the finale. (Wouldn't have mattered for me anyway, I won't have computer access the week 9 is airing anyway. :/ )

There's no saying that will happen again. In light of what happened with last season, they might just delay the last episode again until they find a new slot.

There is a rumor floating around AnimeSuki that the last episode will be cut completely and that Taniguchi will have to shorten the series to 24 episodes. Apparently because CG R2 is receiving really poor ratings. But I'm a bit more skeptical about that one. Ayakashi ayashi was cut short after poor ratings, but CG is way more popular then that show (at least as far as DVD sales go). Can't imagine they'd screw up CG when they know that despite poor ratings it'll rake in more money with DVD sales.

But doesn't a double up disrupt whatever show comes directly after CG at 5:30? More likely they'll delay the episode like they did for 25 & 26.

But who knows...CG is popular enough maybe they will just do a double up.

/rolleyes

Oh please, Japanese TV stations. A week's wait is, of course, not that big a deal. But when it's a pointless delay, then it's bloody annoying. What, exactly, is this accomplishing? Nothing. How the hell it could upset people by airing is beyond me, and if anyone really thinks a week's wait will make a difference...just, lol.

The scan said 6/1 would be replaced by a "緊急ナビ" episode, meaning a recap/staff interview/etc type of affair. Normally these are done before a show airs to spark audience interest. There's no mention of the earthquake in the scan, that's probably just speculation.

I would guess it's caused by either production problems (if they weren't able to get Ep 9 finished on schedule) or low ratings. How adding a recap would help ratings is a little mystifying, but they might have simply reduced the total number of episodes due to ratings and had to fill in the timeslot with something else. We'll just have to see.

Yeah, I keep hearing about "bad ratings" but at least when I was in Japan it didn't seem like Geass was doing that poorly. Maybe it's not the huge runaway hit it was when it first came out, but it also didn't seem to be completely a flop with no one interested in it. The fact Lelouch still keeps winning the Animage character popularity poll has to say something. I partially think the expectations for Geass R2 might have been set a little too high after R1 and the fact there was such a huge break between R1 and R2. I also personally feel R2 started a little slower than R1 and took a little longer to find its pace.

I just remember there were all those rumors about one of the earlier episodes, I want to say 3 or 4, being cut or re-edited and it all just turned out to be rumors.

I think they're more likely to try to double up or delay then just squish it in once Gundam 00 has started up again. I want to say in the past there was usually a week or so anime would take off for various holidays, and they're more likely to squish Geass in there or maybe skip on the re-cap episode. ^^;

I couldn't read all of the magazine cuts so I'm not so sure about this, but even if so: a week wait for episode 9 for China isn't upsetting at all. Season 1 we got an episode 8.5 = same wait for nothing. Since there's no 8.5 this time, I'm happy^_^

Now I just hope episode 25 won't be cut or delayed, coz that can make me really distressed.

I think the problem is that CG might be a hit to those people who buy and read anime magazines, but they're a fairly small percentage of the overall TV viewer audience. 2.7% for a night-time anime is perfectly acceptable, but for a Sunday afternoon slot the advertisers and sponsors expect higher turnout. The shows preceding and following that timeslot are mainstream general interest programs with much higher ratings.

I don't think there's anything wrong with how R2 has been progressing so far. It's just not really a family-friendly general interest program.

Oh.Okay.
Date/Time: 2008-05-21 19:31 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] rkold.livejournal.com
I confess now, I get very confused by all this, as I've read a lot about the ratings being poor this season but whenever I ask questions about it, I don't get answers. ^^;

I know previously someone posted that the Sunday afternoon slot was a "bad" time slot and a kiss of death for an anime. Your post makes it sound like it is a "good" slot, but for more family friendly anime. I'd really like to know which it is. ^^;

So for R1 were the ratings great for an anime airing at 1:30 am on a week night, or were they as high as say Gundam Seed or FMA or Get Backers with their former Saturday afternoon time slots?

I guess what I really want to know is, are the ratings for R2 bad for its time slot or bad compared to what they were for R1 or both or is there no real way of knowing?

BTW I saw on another of your posts about how on 6/1 it seems they're airing a re-cap episode, rather than no episode. Between episodes 8+9 was where the first R1 re-cap episode was so perhaps the fact we are getting a re-cap on 6/1 doesn't actually mean anything. ^^;

Eh. Okay. I'm sure I'll survive for a week and attempt to sleep in on Sunday morning for once. =P

Oh, and here's a good take on the situation from Koshimizu (http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=1606719#post1606719), if anyone's interested. Also his post two responses down.

Condolences to the victims in China, and good on Sunrise for being sensitive enough to the world situation.

I'm fine for the wait, especially since the Earthquake affects my family quite deeply, with most of our relatives in areas affected by the quake (though thankfully everyone's okay). Not being bothered to watch Geass this week will do me some good. ^-^""
