Thanks for the post. I haven't really gotten around to checking out the dub as I don't watch AS much any more (those cards sort of killed it). Though after watching that, I don't think I will. It has the classic mixing issue where just about everything sounds unnatural. It's hard tp describe. It's not suffering from "floating voices syndrome" thankfully, but it still doesn't sound right. It sounds like a dub, which isn't necessary in animation dubbing. The thing that gets me though, is apart from a handful of the actors, in most scenes the dialogue is horribly stilted. Especially C.C. it's like she's just reading aloud to a child, hoping every word gets heard. All the others is only sort of noticeable, but in C.C. it's just plain awful.
On the plus side, most of the voice match, but the aforementioned stilting hurts. It seems only the most veteran actors aren't doing it. The acting is so across the board, and the mediocre mixing doesn't help.
The best from what I heard were Mao, he works pretty well, and can sound like he's not reading something in front of him. Lelouch is what I'd expect from a guy with many years in the field(though from other clips I saw, it appears he doesn't do a Zero voice, a fact I loath). Cornelia (never liked McGlynn as the Major, but so far, she's not bad as Cornelia), and surprisingly enough, Shirley are pretty much the best so far. I say surprising as I heard they gave her a lisp, and given recent events, I wasn't quite ready to hear her in English. So I was dreading her. The voice is fairly close enough, not too high, and the actress can actually put enough emotion in the scenes to work. She's not perfect, and no Orikasa, but I kind of like her, which is saying something from me. So it's probably good that this is the first episode I heard her in.
The worst is easily C.C. Even her emphasis was off in some lines. Followed by Lloyd. While i appreciate an attempt to make him sound as odd as he does in Japanese, an overdone, stately British accent was not the answer, and Cecile's so blah. While I appreciate them trying to approximate Nakata, Diethard's voice is a tad too deep in english.
I just read that Reba West is Nunnally. XD I'm going to have to rewatch her scene now. I also agree with the above. What is up with the pronunciation of Euphemia? I know it's a real name, so I'll have to check if u-FE-mia is more correct over u-FEM-ia. I like the sound of the latter more.
I know Bandai is capable of better dubs than this, especially for A-list titles. It almost seems like they rushed it just to get it on TV faster. Geass deserves more consistent acting and better mixing than this.
