Hey, sorry is this has been talked about before, but It's been bothering me.

So we know Rolo got his geass when he was 6 and during R2 he's around 16. If he had his geass for 10 years, wouldn't it have grown stronger? Lelouch's geass became permanent and in both eyes in a year or so, so why hasn't Rolo's? It's not like he doesn't use his geass very often. He probably use his more than Lelouch does. I would think after ten years, he'd have a code.

Is this another side-effect of his failed geass? It makes sense, but why didn't anyone mention it? Wouldn't Lelouch have wondered about it pre-episode 14?

Or am I just missing something totally obvious?

I was so totally thinking the same thing. Probably just a plothole, and they decided we wouldn't notice anything. wtg Sunrise.

It wouldn't surprise me if the Cult learned a way to stop the geass from going permanent (C.C. said it was a Geass RESEARCH center) ; after all, permanent geass = power to kill V.V. ; When you remember the number of kids V.V. gave the geass to, it must have been something necessary for his very own safety.

Short answer: Because Sunrise didn't feel like it.

Long answer: Pretty sure everyone has a different maximum potential Geass power level. The reason why CC has been around so long is because it's taken her a long time to find someone who had the potential to get their Geass to a high enough level that they could accept a code. Mao was close, but apparently couldn't quite get there.

In general the extent and manner of Geass' growth seems to vary from person to person (for example, Charles got to a high enough level that he could take a code but never developed the condition Lelouch's had.)

*snigger* Does that mean Mao couldn't get it up high enough for C.C., but Lelouch could?

Sorry, but when I read your explanation, which btw is pretty logical, I just had to say it.

I assumed Mao wouldn't take her code because he wasn't willing to kill her.

With the Geass Research Center, it gave the impression that the Geass users there were "farmed," whereas Lelouch had been contractually been given his Geass. Perhaps it's the contract that makes the power more...natural and thus stronger?

I seem to remember V.V. saying Rolo is a defect, so because continual use would stop his heart it'd prevent itself from becoming stronger. If Rolo's Geass had become permanent, his heart would have stopped thus killing himself.

I agree. There is no way he can get stronger when it is so taxing on his body everytime he uses it.

Methinks that [livejournal.com profile] spleener, [livejournal.com profile] shadowbree, and [livejournal.com profile] chinko_inkei are on the right track. What I'd like to add is that to gain a Code, you have to take it from the Geass Giver, and Rolo would have never had a chance.

But since I think the children at the Cult were "farmed" rather than contracted, there are different rules that apply.

Well so did Charles. His geass wasn't always turned on. C.C. stated in the first series that if you didn't learn to control your Geass it would always be on and wouldn't be able to turn it off (she explained that when they had the whole deal with Mao). Lelouch said he was going to become stronger and learn to control his Geass so that it never happened--obviously we all know Lelouch failed there.

Rolo probably learned to control his Geass so that it would never just automatically turn on. After all, he was actully trained, was he not? Lelouch had to learn as he went.

What I'm more concerned about is that Lelouch had his Geass, but when Charles rewrote his memories the Geass was no longer turned on (nothing showed in his eye) until he remembered his past. So... does that also mean if you're not consciously aware of having the ability, it will not constantly be "on"?
