So after the Geass finale, I looked at some pictures on my hard drive and wondered why I never realized this before

I had realized that Lelouch and Rolo both had wings, but I never made the connection before Rolo being dead and having wings, and Lelouch having wings as well.
It becomes that much more evident when you see the full picture, and they're the only ones that have wings, when other characters prominently featured lack them.

Any other instances like this? Do you think they were really foreshadowing events in art or just drawing whatever they felt like?

But hmmm, perhaps it was telling us that Lelouch was going to die as well. Or maybe the wings on him meant the upcoming death of Lelouch as Zero, or maybe even the death of Lelouch Lamperouge. Who knows?

Sounds plausible. Maybe it signifies both in a way, since Lelouch is in his Zero outfit yet is lacking the most identity-concealing part: the mask.

The thing is that you need to understand their way to communicate, they can't be obvious or people will be spoiled of everything, but they can give hints.
It happens also with other series so of course it happened with Code Geass.
Just that as you can see, fans realize it always after the thing actually happened in the episodes; at that point people can look at the pictures back and say "woah now I get it!"

So probably they said. "ok this chara lives, this chara dies, this one will die in the very end, this one will get married etc etc.
Knowing these kind of things, the ones who provide art for the magazines know exactly what they can draw and what it's better not to...
