Well, after watching the final episode 3 times and still crying about it... I am just curious on people's thought, reading the first discussion thread for the final episode [the one with over 600 replies ^^;;;], seems like most people think that the ending sucks or sunrise screw up CG!? [or it could just be because it is still spoiler time that most people haven't watched and understood the whole event of happening]
Here's my 2 cents about CG R2 in regard mainly toward Lelouch!?
I would admit that it is till the final episode, till everything wrapped up in such a beautiful, sad ending that I understood Lulu. Since the start of R2, I had my doubt of his behavior... his way of thinking always seems so extreme that there were many points in times, I [and as well the world of Code Geass] didn't agree with his action. To me, he seems to have changed from the kind-hearted and logical sense in Season 1 to a cold-hearted and "Why don't you see those people [who care] around you??" of R2. He changed to a person that draw in people to dislike his action, and yet all those action are only a mask that he put forth! As he screamed at Rolo... "how much he dislike him, how many times he want to kill him" [which those are true] BUT the moment when Rolo was trying to save him and overusing his geass which would lead to his death... he screamed back without a second thought, "Your heart can't withstand it and you will die. STOP USING THE GEASS"!! Under the mask of his cold-hearted self still lie his kind-heart that has never changed.
When Nunnally was under hostile, despite knowing how much Suzaku has been waiting for the chance to expose him as Zero, he put down the mask and face him. Despite it was an accident in geassing Euphie for the masscre, he never put in any excuse and accepted the fault and the sin all upon himself. When Nunnally turned against him and rejected his action and misunderstood him as being such a despisable, coward and cold-blooded murderer; all behind those mask, only lie a soft-heart that want to give a simple/peaceful world to Nunnally himself as his motivation since the beginning. Setting up himself to be hated by everyone in the world, tainted himself with blood of sacrifice, making himself to be the sole ruler and most sinful person in the world... and in the end carrying out the plan of "Zero Requiem" for his own death to shine a future of hope to the whole world.
It is true he has never changed since the beginning. His goal, his motivation, he stays true to the path he believe in...
Without a doubt, CG R2 is indeed a mess after the initial "death" of Nunnally, but I believe the ending wrapped up Code Geass quite nicely and is one terrific classic!!! It is a sad ending and yet it also has the subtle happiness for the ending. Lelouch finally is able to accomplish what he started off even though that mean carry alone all the hate upon him and sacrifice himself. Lelouch is free from the burden of the sin, geass-nature, misunderstanding, the continuation of the war and the world.
And yes, I know it is an open end that it COULD mean Lelouch is still alive with the whole CC's speech in the end ^.~ But nevertheless, Lelouch is the boy who has been fighting this battle all alone and is ready to get himself killed just to seek a peaceful world for Nunnally and for everyone!! *sigh*

But well, I totally agree with you except that maybe I really a big fan of Lelouch, I always believe in him for what he was doing though it doens't means that I support his actions. But for Zero Requiem, it's pretty surprised when I knew that what is it, I think the whole night yesterday figuring out is that really neccessary to carry out this but I can't find an answer. There suppose got other ways around right? Personally & logically, I don't think it's a good plan. How much time can you buy for it for a peaceful world? Maybe s century? History never less tyrants and we still have war now. What make me more confuse is what make Lelouch and even Suzaku think that it's the only way to lead to peace. I mean, Lelouch might because of atonement but Suzaku is agreeing with him as well.
Though I say it, but it's really a good ending. I dunno what other think about it but a semi open-ended ending is amazing. Though my first reaction when it end was surprise me since I thought there might be some scenes later but that just for a while. It's a good way to end it. Everyone can has their interpretation and think whatever you like in this way. ^^ Btw, I'm those who believe Lelouch still alive.

(Though we maybe able to argue that for one person's life worth, a 40-50 years of peace already worth the price.)
I know it's Lelouch's decision but I can't help partly blaming it on Suzaku. It looks like he's the more serious of the two. When they found out Nunnally is alive, Suzaku scolded Lelouch and told him not to back out. Thinking of it now, it almost looks like he wanted to kill his friend!
btw, I must be the only one who doesn't like open-ended ending. I prefer the clear-cut answer. Dead or not just tell me Sunrise, so I can get over this feeling of mine. One minute I have hope, and next I'm convinced he's dead and become sad. I think it's more torturing this way.

I'm agree with you about Suzaku. It seems like he has the stronger resolution compare with Lelouch & always reminds him about it. That's why I felt weird when Suzaku asked Lelouch are they really wanna do it when Lelouch passed him the helmet. Suzaku is the one always stress on it but why he asks such a question in so last minute? Suzaku has the abiltiy to stop Lelouch but he never do so. Before that Lelouch wanna carry out this plan is because he thought Nunnally died but she appeared again. That time Lelouch was confused and it's a good timing to change his mind but what Suzaku do is reassert him.
Sorry, when talk about these boys I always spill out a lot. I'm not blaming Suzaku but if I can't find a good reason to support that this is a good plan I can't see all the worthy out of it. You mentioned it's one person life for 40-50 years peace but there are a lot of people sacrificed for it already. I suppose they just make a war that might happen in the future happened now only.
Yea, I look at your profile & know you're scorpio. No wonder, we always like clear-cut answer. I'm scorpio too. ^.*
