Well, after watching the final episode 3 times and still crying about it... I am just curious on people's thought, reading the first discussion thread for the final episode [the one with over 600 replies ^^;;;], seems like most people think that the ending sucks or sunrise screw up CG!? [or it could just be because it is still spoiler time that most people haven't watched and understood the whole event of happening]

Here's my 2 cents about CG R2 in regard mainly toward Lelouch!?

I would admit that it is till the final episode, till everything wrapped up in such a beautiful, sad ending that I understood Lulu.  Since the start of R2, I had my doubt of his behavior... his way of thinking always seems so extreme that there were many points in times, I [and as well the world of Code Geass] didn't agree with his action.  To me, he seems to have changed from the kind-hearted and logical sense in Season 1 to a cold-hearted and "Why don't you see those people [who care] around you??" of R2.   He changed to a person that draw in people to dislike his action, and yet all those action are only a mask that he put forth! As he screamed at Rolo... "how much he dislike him, how many times he want to kill him" [which those are true] BUT the moment when Rolo was trying to save him and overusing his geass which would lead to his death... he screamed back without a second thought, "Your heart can't withstand it and you will die.  STOP USING THE GEASS"!!  Under the mask of his cold-hearted self still lie his kind-heart that has never changed.

When Nunnally was under hostile, despite knowing how much Suzaku has been waiting for the chance to expose him as Zero, he put down the mask and face him.  Despite it was an accident in geassing Euphie for the masscre, he never put in any excuse and accepted the fault and the sin all upon himself.  When Nunnally turned against him and rejected his action and misunderstood him as being such a despisable,  coward and cold-blooded murderer; all behind those mask, only lie a soft-heart that want to give a simple/peaceful world to Nunnally himself as his motivation since the beginning.  Setting up himself to be hated by everyone in the world, tainted himself with blood of sacrifice, making himself to be the sole ruler and most sinful person in the world... and in the end carrying out the plan of "Zero Requiem" for his own death to shine a future of hope to the whole world.

It is true he has never changed since the beginning.  His goal, his motivation, he stays true to the path he believe in...

Without a doubt, CG R2 is indeed a mess after the initial "death" of Nunnally, but I believe the ending wrapped up Code Geass quite nicely and is one terrific classic!!!  It is a sad ending and yet it also has the subtle happiness for the ending.  Lelouch finally is able to accomplish what he started off even though that mean carry alone all the hate upon him and sacrifice himself.  Lelouch is free from the burden of the sin, geass-nature, misunderstanding, the continuation of the war and the world.

And yes, I know it is an open end that it COULD mean Lelouch is still alive with the whole CC's speech in the end ^.~ But nevertheless, Lelouch is the boy who has been fighting this battle all alone and is ready to get himself killed just to seek a peaceful world for Nunnally and for everyone!! *sigh*

I liked the ending. A lot.

There, I said it.

Lelouch vi Brittania had to die. If not, the ending would have been disappointing, in the way that after all he did, he still managed to get away. If you think about it, those who had a mayor role in the story got really crappy endings, but after all they did, they deserved them.

- Suzaku wanted to die, but he got to carry the weight of the world yet again and to kill his best friend (yes, he killed other too); he did not get to meet Euphemia in hell (not yet XD)

- Schneizel got pwned badly and what he thought to be the worst thing, be controlled by Geass, was his future. His free will is limited by his obedience to Zero, who is now a royal dick (hey, Suzaku tops Schneizel :PP)

- CC wanted either to die or be happy with LL. She did not die and he did (crazy theories aside) so even if she is not completely lonely, it is never the same.

- VV, Rolo, Emperor-chan and Marianne died tragically, and their plans did not go as planned. If you count in all the sons of Brittania that were selfish pricks too...

- All of the big heads in the OotBK that knew LL to be Zero then realized what he had done, and I bet more than one regrets not understanding him. Kaguya was both betrayed by the two men she loved the most, and for one, she did nothing bad. Cornelia probably realized too, but her priorities as a princess took over (that, and the bastard killed Euphie XD)

The world was a better place, but not everyone got a happy ending. And heck, I'll say it here: I LOVE KallenxGino! She never clicked for me with Lulu.

And the openness at the end that he might be alive is a fangirl's dream. Never mind that officially, he is dead XP

nice thoughts ^_^

to summarize mine, it was a tragic but happy ending. Unique and beautiful way to end the series. But I'm more convinced of Lelouch being dead, so I cried a lot ;____;

I had so many other stuff to say, but I already did like 5 entries related to this final episode ^^; . . .*fingers ached* hehe

I still think C.C. is reminiscing about Lelouch who has already past away...I don't know what it'll take to get the fans to stop making poor Lelouch rise from his grave...
His end was epic and I would like it to stay like that. I know there's the whole "people in CG do not die" thing, but I really think that's just a trap that Sunrise got itself in. Kinda like the kid who cried the wolf too many times. But this time I believe the wolf did come.
You're right, the ending was great because of everything you said. Unless Sunrise is desperate to ruin a perfectly good series but making OVA/Movies of Lelouch being alive, in which I'll go WTF GTH WORST SERIES EVER, otherwise it's a great great show because of this beautiful ending.

To me is more like CC is talking and he is in the World of C, at least that was my first impression. Then I come to LJ and read all the possible!crack theories XDD
IF they make an OVA, I would like it to be about all the loose ends that are still around. So, what happened to Sayoko after prison? Did Rivalz finally hooked up with Milly? Is the rumor that Nani mai hunni is Rivalz's sister true? What the hell happened to Kaguya???

And if you really think about it, he is probably happy in Clovis' party island, drinking and dancing all day long, beating Clovis in every game of chess and trying to score with Euphie. Clovis has long forgiven him, since heck, the afterlife was much better than the real!life, and Euphemia never really hated him. He apologized to Marianne and Charles who had joined in the fun, and on their part they apologized too, admitting being awful pricks for what they did. At nights, he goes storytelling to the Geass children, and he kindly told V.V to GTFO of the party island, because he is such a party pooper.

I liked how it ended. Lelouch realised what a mess he and his family had made and decided to get of himself once and for all making the greatest sacrifice he possibly could, Ending his own life for the sake of everyone elses happiness.

I just know there's going to be shitloads of fic now set after the ending about how Lelouch is stuck raising sheep now in the middle of somewhere and Suzaku comes to visit, they talk, possibly have some sex depending on the nature of the fic and then go seperate ways again.

...Dammit If I sat and wrote fic that's the exact sort of unoriginal plot I'd go for to. OH SHIT IT'S THE UTENA ENDING ALL OVER AGAIN *Pulls out hair*

I too agree that it was a good end, Sunrise make have f**ed with us for most of the season, but they managed to meet ends meet quite nicely. I figured Lelouch would die the way he did, 'Zero Requiem' can only mean so many things, and I did not see Suzaku just suddenly agreeing with him ...

I have no theories as to whether Lelouch is alive or not, C.C's last words, could mean that he is indeed alive, or in the world of C, or she could just be speaking to him ... its not uncommon for a character to speak to another dead character as if their are alive, it's adds drama to the story, in a way of speaking of that character's loss, or whatever.

Anyway, I really enjoyed the end, and I am willing to admit it!
Date/Time: 2008-09-29 12:04 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] huechi.livejournal.com
It was a good and bad ending.

I like that Lelouch did provide an answer to the question that his parents failed to solve: How can people end the cycle of fighting and suffering?

Charles and Marianne's solution was that the fighting will stop if there are no humans (individuals) at all to start fights, but Lelouch's alternative was to make the world forget about their past/present conflicts and issues by providing them with a common goal. In working together to destroy this 'evil monster', a significant step towards reconciliation was made.

Since an enormous amount of hate points was collected by Lelouch, the removal of all that hatred from the collective human consciousness would at least push humans on the way to breaking free from the destructive cycle.

I wonder, did someone other than Lelouch try the same method in the past? Like every thousand years, someone sacrificed themselves to purge the system when overly negative emotions reached critical levels -> Lelouch is the virgin sacrifice for this era.

I think Lelouch died pretty fabulously. Sliiiide, giant blood trail and teh drama was quite in the style of Failouch.

Oh, it's a bad ending as well, because any ending without Rolo is a BAD ENDING. I DEMAND A RESET.

Though I did cry and felt depressed over the ending, I still think that it was an ending befitting Lelouch (eeps!). Afterall, like he said, he did destroy the world and (re)create it. And, I think Kallen said that although it was sad that Lelouch was blamed for everything bad that happened, but it helped everyone to move on (I hope I understood the raw correctly. *shrugs*). Honestly speaking, I wasn't much of a fan of Lelouch at first, but towards the end, I kinda understood that that's his way of doing things/the path he chose. I've got to hand it to him. Lol ^^

Oh, and not forgetting Suzaku. And the last words between Lelouch and Suzaku. And at least there were some who understood what happened. =P

The unconclusive ending isn't such a bad thing too. I mean, at least I can tell myself that he might still be alive out there. Hee~

Date/Time: 2008-09-29 12:45 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] dragonlover58.livejournal.com
I thought it was a very good ending. Sure, I was extremely depressed that my absolute favorite character ever was killed off in the end, but I don't think it could have ended any other way. I loved the twist of Suzaku is now Zero, and in a way he did get to die- Suzaku Kururugi is no more, only Zero.

And as to the possibility of Lulu being alive still/having a code- would love if it were true, but I doubt it. However, I realized last night that we still have a bunch of picture dramas and sound episodes, so maybe it'll be cleared up by the last DVD release in Japan...
Date/Time: 2008-09-29 12:54 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] tenshi789.livejournal.com
It was such a good ending.

But I just feel its so incredibly sad, that all Nunnally wanted was to be beside Lelouch- she would have been just as happy or even happier with their old life is he was there.

All the way from Season 1, I wanted Lelouch to fail and realise he can't change all the hate in the world, but his sister's happiness would be secured anyway if he was with her.

But this ending with is so beautiful, with so much sacrifice and resulting good.

Farewell, out effeminate, unfit prince.
Date/Time: 2008-09-29 13:06 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] e-eleniel.livejournal.com
I guess what made so many people -including me- rage is that after everything Lulu sacrificed the producers didn't give him any moments of acknowledgement of his actions, that he in fact was the 'virgin sacrifice' as stated above. Maybe, if we had seen more other than how Nunally cried her heart out for him, or how Kallen kept his memory in her heart after understnading what he was doing... Maybe we could at least be given the ppl's reactions who knew him a little more clearly. I would die to hear a monologue from Suzaku, maybe not a forgiving one, but a thanking one. -LOL, I wonder how he will stay sane after adding the murder of his best friend on his father's murder... Such a heavy burden.-

What I am trying to say is that even the worst of the tragic heros needs some back patting, some acknowledgement on the things they suffered. Nunally and Kallen's reactions, even suzaku's tears were not enough for me...

I would very much love to believe that Lulu is alive, that he is the cart rider, but if Sunrise would wanted us to believe that they would have given us another close up of the rider, even if we couldn't see his face, that paper crane would be by his side, not C.C...

Then again, what happened to the LL's promise to CC? If leading a silent life at the countryside was to bring happiness to her, she would already be there, not beside LL...

I want an OVA, a pic Drama, a sound episode, anything that would prove us these crazy theories of LL being alive true. Yes, The Emperor had to die, but not Lelouch Lamperougue... Heroic, epic or not... He didn't deserve to have an end like this, hated by all, killed by his best friend, seperated from everything he held dear... No one deserves this, after losing so many things, after taking the blame of everthing willingly on himself, his name set to be remembered forever with hatred and curses.

Is wanting him alive a vain wish on my part?
Date/Time: 2008-09-29 13:50 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kimchiburger.livejournal.com
I agree. I think I would have felt a lot better if the world or at least more people from the main cast acknowledged his suffering. I mean, it is Lelouch's intention to go down in history as the worst villain in the world, but I would have liked to see the Black Knights kind of appreciate him in retrospect (and feel very guilty ooooooh).

You know, this is the first episode that I have plenty of things to talk about but I don't feel like to talk now. Yesterday after finished it I couldn't sleep and think about it a lot. Looks like I need to wait the things all calm down first before I write a details about it.

But well, I totally agree with you except that maybe I really a big fan of Lelouch, I always believe in him for what he was doing though it doens't means that I support his actions. But for Zero Requiem, it's pretty surprised when I knew that what is it, I think the whole night yesterday figuring out is that really neccessary to carry out this but I can't find an answer. There suppose got other ways around right? Personally & logically, I don't think it's a good plan. How much time can you buy for it for a peaceful world? Maybe s century? History never less tyrants and we still have war now. What make me more confuse is what make Lelouch and even Suzaku think that it's the only way to lead to peace. I mean, Lelouch might because of atonement but Suzaku is agreeing with him as well.

Though I say it, but it's really a good ending. I dunno what other think about it but a semi open-ended ending is amazing. Though my first reaction when it end was surprise me since I thought there might be some scenes later but that just for a while. It's a good way to end it. Everyone can has their interpretation and think whatever you like in this way. ^^ Btw, I'm those who believe Lelouch still alive.
Date/Time: 2008-09-29 15:55 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] avocado-freak.livejournal.com
Agreed that Zero Requiem doesn't really look like a good plan. I personally think he could have contributed more as a good emperor or as a person behind Nunnally's or Schneizel's rule. Some say his death isn't much different from Hitler's. When Hitler died, the world didn't go straight to peace and stick to it. And when 40-50 years passed, it became only a case study.

(Though we maybe able to argue that for one person's life worth, a 40-50 years of peace already worth the price.)

I know it's Lelouch's decision but I can't help partly blaming it on Suzaku. It looks like he's the more serious of the two. When they found out Nunnally is alive, Suzaku scolded Lelouch and told him not to back out. Thinking of it now, it almost looks like he wanted to kill his friend!

btw, I must be the only one who doesn't like open-ended ending. I prefer the clear-cut answer. Dead or not just tell me Sunrise, so I can get over this feeling of mine. One minute I have hope, and next I'm convinced he's dead and become sad. I think it's more torturing this way.

I liked the ending too~ though it was open-ended, it served it's job well into closing the series (doesn't mean additional OVA stuff shouldn't exist haha).

At first, R2 gave me lots of WTF and made me question many character's dispositions, but man, this episode "redeemed" itself by showing what is really true in their (in this case, Suzaku, Lelouch, and Nunally.. though others can account too) hearts. Ahaha.. so cheesy.. but the final act in the Zero Requiem made me awe (though I still don't really think that it was the best idea to go forth, but it did was was expected, I guess).
