Yeah, if there's anyone left here who doesn't hate the pairing.

Anyway, I've decided to volunteer to write a ship_manifesto  for the pairing, because I still love it, and enjoy ranting on about my favorite ships. I was only able to find two Code Geass manifestos, both of which I believe cover only season one, which is rather disappointing. But getting to the point, I've already written most of the actual content (though the nitpicky editor in me plans to revise it quite a bit) but when it comes to the recs section, for such a rare pairing, I figured it'd be best to ask the community for anything they've found. I've already got a couple fics, some art, and even a lovely Japanese fanart site, but I'm hoping there's something out there I've missed. Maybe over on ff.net, because I'm too afraid to weed through all the badfic there.

Also, I'm failing completely at thinking of a title that doesn't suck. If anyone can suggest one, I'd love that.

Actually, I hadn't even considered memories yet (I fail so much at titles) so that can at least give me something to think about.

I actually like Jeremiah/Villetta too (just not a much), but the fact that its fanworks overwhelm Ougi/Villetta saddens me. But I'm not too surprised, because fanon always dominates canon, and Ougi was never well liked.

Jeremiah/Villetta just surprised me, is all xD When I first saw it I was like: "Never seen this before what about the guy with the weird hair?" (This was before I had properly seen season 1) So I never really cared about it. xD

I adore Ougi, so the hate for him makes me crazy. I'm pretty used to liking unpopular characters.

I watched season one first, and so with Villetta and Jeremiah I was like... they look like a couple, and they're both good-looking. Why not? But I didn't feel like I lost anything when Jeremiah "died" (I actually found him kind of annoying at first) and as soon as I saw episode 14, I already decided Ougi and Villetta needed to end up together.

I don't have a problem with Jeremiah/Sayoko as fanon, but I was a bit freaked out when everyone was convinced it would become canon with only two episodes left. I never really thought of it as possible, since they only interacted once on friendly terms. But I probably would've enjoyed it if it was fleshed out more.

I actually like Ougi because he's ordinary. Characters who are too perfect or special tend to bore me to tears. When I was little I remember always disliking heroes and fangirling the sidekicks, especially if they didn't have superpowers of their own, but still tried their best to be useful. I find Ougi really refreshing, because he stays a normal person throughout the whole series, but yet still gets to be involved in all these intense situations.

And I also really love ships like Ougi/Villetta. I know the cliche doesn't work for everyone. But yeah, making her pregnant kinda annoyed me only because I like to see awesome females stay awesome. But I think it's rather sweet that they get to have a child who's half Britannian/half Japanese, to symbolize the peace. And in my head, Villetta will go back to being her normal self once their kid is born.

I don't think he's completely useless either. Just normal. Comparing him to someone like Schneizel or Lelouch would make him look like an idiot, true, and he did end up being used by both of them. But they're tactical geniuses. If Ougi used to be a school teacher, they probably wouldn't have hired him if he didn't have some kind of degree, and thus some intelligence. But I personally wouldn't expect my old teachers to be very useful if thrown into a war. Fighting wasn't his calling, and he was even able to admit that. If he was stubborn and just pretended he was a great commander, he probably would've gotten himself (or someone else) killed in the beginning. But he's protective and concerned for everyone around him, not just VIlletta, like some people have said.

I'll admit I've watched my fair share of harem anime. I have a weakness for cute things, and not all of it is actually shallow. Villetta seemed a lot like a tsundere type character to me, in that she was really strong when she was introduced, but gradually (though reluctantly) became softer. But just classifying her in a simple archetype is unfair. After all, she didn't spend the entirety of R2 blushing and making cute faces. I actually like her level of will to try and hate Ougi, including the fact that she was actually going to try and kill him again. It's the fact that she stays strong in her own ways until the end (she was a part of Cornelia's resistance, and carrying a gun while pregnant) that I don't think she's really a submissive housewife. But the fact that she's happy as she is in the end is also fine with me. Even though I have some feminist beliefs, I certainly think that women can be housewives if they choose to, and if their family can afford it.

I'm not saying you have to agree with me or anything. That's just the way I saw it.

Okay, I really don't want to argue. That wasn't my intent at all, and I'm sorry if it came out that way. We clearly have a difference of opinions, and that's fine with me.

The way I see it, there's different types of intelligence. The intelligence needed to get through college is clearly different from the type needed to be the calculating type of person Lelouch is.

And um... all I mean by that is that woman's rights are an important issue to me, as a female myself, but being that I'm extremely pro-life, I don't think I'd be accepted in the general feminist community. Poor wording on my part. I apologize.

Schneizel says jump, they ask how high, and Ougi was one of the loudest.

No really, they do believe what Schneizel tell them about Lelouch because it was almost the truth and they have cross-evidences for nearly all of them, then Schneizel sayd "return Lelouch to me" and Ohgi said "Of course, but give us Japan back"
Lelouch escaped thanks to Rollo and everyone went to look for him on Kaminejima.
None was able to find Lelouch, but Schneizel made Britannia troops retreat from Japan and return it back to the Japanese, and then go hiding in Cambodia - with Kannon, Cornelia and Diethard.

When Lelouch reconquered Japan in ep.22/23, Schneizel offered to join his forces with the UNF and Xingke, that is the Commander back there, accepted this alliance because they needed him, and had no other option that pass the command on Schneizel because Sunrise has to pull off the lame chess game reference of the day it was the condition imposed to save the hostages Lelouch has brought on the Avalon - and Ohgi even gave Xingke a glance of dispproval back there.

So there is really poor evidence that the Black Knights and Ohgi in particular was that much gay for Schneizel in the show.

The evidence Schneizel presented them are congruent with what they know already and with all the doubths they had been harboring for over a year - in Ohgi's case even more, since he was doubthing Zero already when the JLF ship was blown up. Of course me might disagree about it being a dumb move or not, but what I wanted to emphasize with my very erudite TomBoy quote is that when the Black Knights had to side with Scheneizel, they were far from enthusiastic in doing so, and it has been voiced out quite clearly.

You most obviously don't like Ohgi at all and that's fine, I do not like some other characters as well and I'm more focused on their negative rather than positive traits, but I think you are being too harsh in your negative judgement of Villetta's current condition. You have no indication that she's reverted to anything, she's just enjoying the last months of her pregnancy and is happy to be with the man she loves.
I'd have really hated if the authors would have pull out something stupid like her changing her name to Chigusa, but we know for sure she did not, since the signature she puts on the message board in Tamaki's bar is - Villetta Ohgi.
She could be back in the UNF army in a year as a training instructor for what we know, while Ohgi is staying at home an doing the cooking in between a parliament session and another XD

The whole Code Geass series fishes a lot into cheesy cliché, but if you try to look at this from another angle, the life experience of Villetta is giving us a very positive message.

Villetta was first introduce as some very proud soldier and somehow social climber, since she' coming from a lower social class and hopes to gain rank through military career. She's also part of the purist faction - the most intransigent and harsh with the conquered nation - of one of the most aggressive nation in the world. We might even speculate that she came from an ethnic group that has been inglobate inside the Britannia Empire quite recently, since she's clearly not caucasian, but even keeping this speculation aside, she incarnates not a very nice example of human being (element from the opressed class that try to integrate in the most oppressing faction of the oppressors).
She might be cool and awesome as badass as she was back there, but she was not leading that much of a happy life.
Then came the incident of her loss of memory, and even if the plot is awfully soap-opera like in that regard, the effect on her is that with it she's been given an occasion to find back that part of herself she was forced to repress in order to be a soldier of an army as harsh and inhuman as Britannia Army is oftenly shown to be. She was presented with a chance of happiness she's lost any hope/purpose to find: self-realization that is not based on social climbing and discrimination, but on love and understanding. She gave up the rank she's gained (and that doesn't make her fully happy) to be with the man that, despite all the things that keep them apart, is the love of her life, and that loves her back with equal strenght (you can dislike Ohgi as much as you want, bu the fact he deeply loves her is undeniable) and is having a child with him, that is nearly the best thing a human being can find in his life.

The words Cornelia said to her about rank can be read also this way, and I think in the end Villetta has become maybe a better and surely a happier person than the somehow bitter and lonely career-woman she was in the beginning. Incidentally, she has also a very good marriage in terms of social status, but it really doesn't matter anymore, because when she choosed to be with him, that was the last thing they could expect, and that's all that matter.

I'm okay with fictional characters being assholes, but since she changed for the good in the story and in your earlier post you analyzed Villetta's change from a very negative and disminishing perspective as an example of real life fucked up behaviour (for a woman to get back "in the kitchen"), and I simply offered you my positive reading of her life experience (for an arid and social climbing human being to find back much more positive an true values - like love, family and such)

As for her giving up a lot of things for him, without him doing the same, it's more an effect of the events they've been caught in than an imposition of Ohgi's will over her. By the time they were reunited (the mutiny), there are no other plausible alternatives beside staying with the Black Knight if she wanted to be with him, and she makes her choice when she did not follow Cornelia in ep.20


yeah, Lelouch plan doesn't make a lot of sense at all, but we are talking of Code Geass, and a lot of things from the very start requires an high amount of credulity for us to enjoy.
This is far from being my favourite show, but I was happy with it in the end, and that's all. I enjoyed the fluff, too.

I actually really liked Ougi a lot at first for the fact that he was so plain. At first, I never expected him to be a significant character, because he looked so forgettable. But the more he appeared, the more I liked him. I'm just extraordinarily shallow and when he turned against Lelouch, I didn't like him anymore. xD


But I so agree on the cliche romance. Villetta was sucha strong character at first and she turned into such a house wife. :(

As for the cliché, there's so many cliché in Code Geass that spotting out just the cliches Ohgi and Villetta's relationship is kind of cheap, and has probably more to do with general Ohgi disliking that seems one of the dominant trends of this fandom, especially after the mutiny.
As you pointed out, otherwise, their child that impersonate the unity as an alternative to conflict soundes like a nice message to me =)

Thanks. Your art is pretty much all I've seen, unfortunately, but I really enjoy it. It's nice to see a variety of pairings, besides the stream of Lelouch/everyone. And I have nothing against Lelouch, but the others need love too.

And I can't read a word of Italian, so it wouldn't really help, but thanks anyway.

And yeah, it's definitely a cliche pairing, but others are pretty cliche too. My first reaction to the Zero/Kallen/Lelouch relationship was Superman/Lois Lane/Clark Kent. (Yes, I'm a big Superman geek.)

I really like Lelouch too but his overwhelming popularity somehow stops me from focusing on him art-wise, poor thing! And I prefer to draw ugly older men since the bishies, with their linear features, are actually quite a bore to draw. XD

Argh, our stupid language is kind of useless in the big big world, but now that I think about it.. have you tryed to scroll the flashfic community..? I really don't remember if there was something interesting about this pairing there, but the variability in characters was pleasently higher than in other contexts.

Indeed almost every canon or canon-hinted pairing in CG are quite cliché: Chiba, Cécile and Guilford are victim of a massive I'dNeverAdmitBUTId'SOshagMyBoss-complex, Suzaku and Euphie fall into the fairytale love category, Shirley and Rivalz suffered from the obnoxious hopeless teenage crush... but since it's an anime and not the most complex and innovative serial, we might fogive them all and love them for what they are

Thanks then. I'm actually considering learning Italian, but only to watch an anime I love that's recently been dubbed into Italian. Mostly because I'm curious to see if it's done better than the butchered English dub. Sad reason, I know.

While some are irritating, I have no problem with a lot of clichés. The reason they're done so many times is because they work, after all. I really enjoy romances, and I appreciate all the Code Geass pairings in their own way (well, the believable ones anyway. Things like Schneizel/Suzaku just make me stare blankly.) Xing-ke/Tianzi is probably the most unique ship in Code Geass, and that's easily interpretable as simply platonic.

Indeed Xing-ke Tianzi is weird. It might fall inside the fairytale love category but her being thirteen while he is twenty-four is.. kind of odd for a canon pairing.

Spider Riders. It's rather unheard of in the US, despite the fact that some of it aired on TV. It's not even that there's much to edit out, because its a children's anime, but they messed with the scripts a lot, and my favorite character (Buguese) was turned from a sympathetic villain who made a lot of mistakes to a self-centered creep.

I really like them together too, despite the age-difference. It's cute.

Never heard about it, I'm sorry. I might ask if someone of my friend has watched it and give you their recs, if you want. Anyway, Italian is kind of difficult to learn just listening at it for an english speaker, unless you are very familiar with spanish. We have a quite annoying and complicate grammar ^^;

I guess Karen -> Lelouch (and Nunnaly -> Suzaku, even if it has not been emphasize too much and that's good) are the only canon relationships I'd have gladly done without. I'm in love/OK with anything else XD

Meh, it's really only something I'd suggest to people who enjoy cute stuff, and who understand a decent amount of Japanese, as there's no subbed version. Definitely not targeted at a mainstream audience.

I actually speak some Spanish (as well as some Japanese) because I enjoy learning languages. I'm pretty decent at picking things up, as long as I practice.

I like both canon and crack, but even some of the crack pairings I like usually have logic behind them... except for those that just stemmed from jokes, that no one other than my brother would get.

sometimes, when I look back at the origin of some of the crack couples I crave for, the only answer I can give my self is 'dude, you drink too much' - but it regulary happens that I find nice reasons for such couples to work. I might write an essay on the reasons why it could work between Shirley and Asahina in a -what if? universe where they both survive the war, and I wonder if this is more insane than random coupling them 'just because' XDDDD

..and, coming back on topic, I'm gonna pass your request for good Ohgi/Villetta stuff on Animesuki Forum, and let you know if someone will come up with something new, kay? :3

Yeah. While I never blamed Ougi (or any other Black Knight) for the incident, I realize that's where a lot of the hate comes from. But what puzzled me is people who originally liked the pairing started to despise it just because they were mad that Lelouch was betrayed. Thinking about it, I actually ship quite a few pairings (in various fandoms) where one half I either don't care for or flat-out dislike, because the relationship is still interesting.

Perhaps it's just that they hate him so intensely that they wish him unhappiness? I don't know. I got past that kind of juvenile character bashing years ago. Obviously, I don't like every character ever created, but there's no sense putting that much negative thought into them.

I'm an Ougi/Villetta fan too, and I might write a fanfic about them; I hope I do justice to the pairing. :) I hope the website I gave you will help you. Good luck on your manifesto! Thank you. Actually, that's the only Ougi/Villetta site I know of (I've weeded pretty much all through a Japanese Code Geass search engine), but it's really nice.

There's not nearly enough fic out there, so I'd love to see if you write something. I should probably try and write fic myself, but the only CG fic I've done so far borders crack. Not sure if I could pull off anything serious.

I'll definitely need luck, because I'm having some issues with the comm. Somehow, my posting access was taken away, and thus all entries need approval, and the mod there isn't exactly quick at replying (to the point of sometimes taking months). So, I could've had the essay up already. So frustrating...

Yeah, I've been searching for Ougi/Villetta sites, but that's the only site I found.

There are three Ougi/Villetta fanfics I know; I can't remember the titles but I think they're posted somewhere in this community. I'd like to search for them but my laptop is running out of batteries. :( But what I do remember is that one is called "Oubliette."

I really really want to write an Ougi/Villetta fic but I'm suffering from writer's block and I don't know if I'll have time to write once my semestral break is over. :) But I'll let you know if I do write one.
