Not exactly Code Geass related, but Sunrise. Still an interesting read though.

Though the article is safe, the website and images is NSFW; wait till you get home guys.

I understand they have the right to 'protect' their work, but ugh... v__v (Though I do agree on the banning of KuroKami...)

Seems to me Sunrise doesn't appreciate the its fans.It seems to me like this is the almighty Yen speaking.Greedy corporate bullshit!

Does this mean Sunrise will go on an LJ-style wipe-everything-BAD-off-the-face-of-the-Internet regime?

Because I'd reeeaaaally like to avoid getting sued for having capped the last 8 or so episodes of R2.

Besides home made shoops and whoops.

I generally use Screencaps as a means to judge animation style and to check highly anticipation stillshots on series or episodes I havn't seen yet. Watching something like the last episode of the first season of Higurashi after the buildup of Rena fighting K1 on the roofup was slightly disappointing.

Seeing Lelouch and Suzaku at each other's throat in the last episode of R1 is probably one of those things I may keep on replay in a DVD, But my disappointment in R2 is not an exaggeration, so if they're trying to make money I can see why they wouldn't want people to look at something before they buy it, especially if they havn't seen it before.

However this isn't unexpected from Sunrise.

So you can only put up fan works on Sunrise-sponsored pages. Yeah, see how well that worked for LucasArts.

Wow, I had the strangest dream where I went on my LJ and all my Code Geass icons were taken off because of like Sunrise being all meh about copyright issues. Weeeeeird ~

I don't understand the big deal about screenshots, like the article says, in blogs and stuff it shows the work and allows viewers a chance to see if they'd like to watch it. They're going to be hurting their revenue by doing this.
With the fanart, I kind of wonder if they're going to start going after those of us who sell our art at conventions and whatnot. We're doomed D:

I doubt it, it's being hosted by Livejournal through. They'll be the one's responsible, and most likely just delete your journal or something. But most likely as long as it's not on a Google search then I don't think they even know about your caps.

Oh, fantastic.

Also, does that mean we're going to be forced to delete all Sunrise-related icons? LOOK MA THIS ICON IS CODE GEASS-RELATED, LOOK HOW COOL IT I--*SHOT THROUGH THE HEAD BY CORPORAL ASSHATS*

Fuuuuuuun.

...I might be a terrible person, but I laughed at the idea of Sunrise creating a squad of people to /deal/ with this... Decked up as Black Knights, they'd go from con to con, to deal with this fanart crisis.

Avatars/Icons are justifiable under Fair use I believe.

Oh, okay then. Thanks.

Now I'm imagining someone dressed as Zero going around, geassing everyone into taking down their fanarts.

"I, Lelouch of Sunrise, command you to take your screencaps and art off of your fansites!"
Date/Time: 2009-01-31 17:51 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] madhatterpan.livejournal.com
And now someone will really draw fanart of that happening, which will be followed by major irony when Sunrise sees it and debates whether it is in support of removing all fanart or rebellion...since it is still fanart.

To be honest, they probably don't care.

Does this even affect the western part of fandom? I dunno, I know the Kingdom Hearts fandom in Japan is more or less underground due to Disney being jerks, but Western fans more or less don't get harassed for drawing stuff due to "fair use" and all that jazz. But I have no idea, honestly.

Then again, I doubt this would affect fandom either way other than putting up passwords for websites like the KH Japanese fandom has done. I wonder how CLAMP feels about this (I know they just designed the characters, but considering their background... I'd be a little bit insulted).

Yes, I'm using this icon of malice perpense.

Killing fandom, Sunrise? Killing the goose that lays the golden eggs? Stupid, Sunrise, oh so stupid.

Or that's maybe the way to deal with the economic crisis? So many vacancies for fansites-controllers...

Wow.

Not even fanfiction? FAN FICTION?

There is a problem and there are thousands of fans that do this. Forget sharing screen caps. That I can understand, but they don't even want fans to share fan art, fan fiction or even graphics?

So in all technically I'm using illegal icons?

That is bull. It takes out the fun in fandom. In we can't be allowed to do this, then how can a fan enjoy a series besides just watching it and talking about it? How can one express their love for a series without having to use avatars, etc?

I mean really, how in the hell does this hurt their company?

And what about cosplay pictures?

I lol'd when I saw this a few days ago.
First they blame torrents and such for the low ratings and now this...
Sunrise is really desperate.

You've brought up an interesting issue. Yes, what about CLAMP ladies? Something is telling me that they will be pretty pissed off.
Date/Time: 2009-01-31 18:25 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] kaorutsukiko.livejournal.com
*puts on a Geass icon*

I lol'd. I think it will be one of those 'rules' that doesn't last that much. and it will be soon taken down after people complain too much. Or won't even be actually applied, maybe.
Anyway, I think it's kinda of impossible for them to control the whole internet, since there's A LOT of people who takes screencaps, draws, writes, cosplays and whatever they want to remove. Good luck if they will go around the whole internet removing all of these, since I'm 99% sure that someone will probably just post those things up again as soon as they're taken down.

Highly doubt they're going to go through the jackassery of enforcing this edict overseas.

So we should do our duty and taunt them from across the ocean like so:

That...is a pretty badly written cease-and-desist letter. How do we know it's for real?

Edit: Additionally, Clause 1 Paragraph 23 (which I assume is in Section 101 in the "Copyright Act") is a definition, not a law. And it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the images in question anyway. Either Sunrise can't afford a decent lawyer or this is a hoax. >.>

Edit again: What was I thinking, there's no way Clause 1 paragraph 23 makes a lick of sense. What section? Where's the rest of the cite?? I'm definitely calling hoax.
