Not exactly Code Geass related, but Sunrise. Still an interesting read though.
Though the article is safe, the website and images is NSFW; wait till you get home guys.
I understand they have the right to 'protect' their work, but ugh... v__v (Though I do agree on the banning of KuroKami...)

I generally use Screencaps as a means to judge animation style and to check highly anticipation stillshots on series or episodes I havn't seen yet. Watching something like the last episode of the first season of Higurashi after the buildup of Rena fighting K1 on the roofup was slightly disappointing.
Seeing Lelouch and Suzaku at each other's throat in the last episode of R1 is probably one of those things I may keep on replay in a DVD, But my disappointment in R2 is not an exaggeration, so if they're trying to make money I can see why they wouldn't want people to look at something before they buy it, especially if they havn't seen it before.
However this isn't unexpected from Sunrise.

Because I'd reeeaaaally like to avoid getting sued for having capped the last 8 or so episodes of R2.

I don't understand the big deal about screenshots, like the article says, in blogs and stuff it shows the work and allows viewers a chance to see if they'd like to watch it. They're going to be hurting their revenue by doing this.
With the fanart, I kind of wonder if they're going to start going after those of us who sell our art at conventions and whatnot. We're doomed D:

Then again, I doubt this would affect fandom either way other than putting up passwords for websites like the KH Japanese fandom has done. I wonder how CLAMP feels about this (I know they just designed the characters, but considering their background... I'd be a little bit insulted).

Killing fandom, Sunrise? Killing the goose that lays the golden eggs? Stupid, Sunrise, oh so stupid.
Or that's maybe the way to deal with the economic crisis? So many vacancies for fansites-controllers...

Not even fanfiction? FAN FICTION?
There is a problem and there are thousands of fans that do this. Forget sharing screen caps. That I can understand, but they don't even want fans to share fan art, fan fiction or even graphics?
So in all technically I'm using illegal icons?
That is bull. It takes out the fun in fandom. In we can't be allowed to do this, then how can a fan enjoy a series besides just watching it and talking about it? How can one express their love for a series without having to use avatars, etc?
I mean really, how in the hell does this hurt their company?
And what about cosplay pictures?

First they blame torrents and such for the low ratings and now this...
Sunrise is really desperate.

I lol'd. I think it will be one of those 'rules' that doesn't last that much. and it will be soon taken down after people complain too much. Or won't even be actually applied, maybe.
Anyway, I think it's kinda of impossible for them to control the whole internet, since there's A LOT of people who takes screencaps, draws, writes, cosplays and whatever they want to remove. Good luck if they will go around the whole internet removing all of these, since I'm 99% sure that someone will probably just post those things up again as soon as they're taken down.
(USER WAS V& FOR THIS POST)
So we should do our duty and taunt them from across the ocean like so:
THAT'S RIGHT SUNRISE
ALL OF IT IS YOUR SHIT
WHATCHA GONNA DO ABOUT IT, MOTHERFUCKERS?

Edit:
Additionally, Clause 1 Paragraph 23 (which I assume is in Section 101 in the "Copyright Act") is a definition, not a law.And it doesn't seem to have anything to do with the images in question anyway. Either Sunrise can't afford a decent lawyer or this is a hoax. >.>Edit again: What was I thinking, there's no way Clause 1 paragraph 23 makes a lick of sense. What section? Where's the rest of the cite?? I'm definitely calling hoax.

Which fucktard decided this now? is everyone in Sunrise so fucked that they all agree with this?
First goes episodes, then goes the music, then the AMVs, NOW THIS!!!!
This is fucked. I'd like to see them try. No one will abide by this or even acknowledge it. There is no fucking way in hell that I'd EVER abide by this!!! They would have to hunt me down and slaughter me to stop me!
Fan art helps the series, not destroys it!
The fans will absolutely hate this.
They don't have access to everything like that. All they can probably do is tell them that they don't like it. They can't hack every site and remove everything.
-goes to angrily rant and swear elsewheres-
Geez, if fucked up laws like this keep popping up, In a few years it will be illegal to breathe

"You can't stop me!" hardly means "I'm right and you're wrong." Neither side wants to start a hacking war, and both sides want Sunrise to keep producing good, profitable content. I think it'd be more productive if the fans were a little more willing to respect what Sunrise is worried about, and Sunrise is a little more willing to give fans some freedom. *shrug* In a perfect world, with sunshine and rainbows everyday...
I often hear the "fan art/fiction helps the series" line, and I generally agree, but here's a nice simple example of how it could hurt. And I actually think this pattern is really common: Guy sees SuzaLulu fan art and decides not to watch Code Geass because "Eww, this show is GAY!" I can't tell you how many perfectly straight series end up completely ignored by male audiences because it happens to have a strong fujoshi following that has skewed the perception of the male relationships in the show. (Some shows, like Gundam and maybe Geass, manage to survive this, but some don't, like Meine Liebe or Cluster Edge.)
