The past 4 days I rewatched the entire Code Geass series (1st and 2nd) because my boyfriend had never seen it and Dan (one of his friends who has seen it) and I were making a lot of Code Geass references; and well... eventually my boyfriend's curiosity got the best of him and he decided he wanted to watch it.

But that's when I got an idea. I'm also a memeber of the Slayers anime community and a while back they had initiated a rerun schedule where they would watch an episode once every other day or once a week (I can't remember) and at the end of the day the person who set it up would post some screenshots from the episode and talk about some of their thoughts... what they forgot about, what they really liked, etc. Other members who decided to take part could post comments about what they liked as well.

So I was going to propose, as a community, we could rewatch the series. Perhaps one episode a week would be fine? It means it will take about a year to complete since there are 52 weeks in a year. In the first series there is a total of 25 episodes since 25 and 26 were combined into a 46 minute episode and in the second series there is exactly 25 episodes... meaning 50 total.

The rules are simple: if you choose to participate you do not move ahead of the schedule and watch the following episode. You must wait until the next week.

Lemme know if anyone is interested! Sorry about this sounding a bit wordy and rushed. I'm in a hurry but I wanted to get this out there because it was bugging me lol.

56 weeks in a year? What planet do you live on?

It's a charming idea. It's definitely possible to get some more commotion within this community with it.

Sounds like fun. Usually when I go back to watch the show I marathon it in chunks, and I've had a few false starts, so this will be an interesting change (although it's hard to know if I'll actually be able to follow that one rule from start to finish).

I really like this idea. If this gets off the ground, I'd be happy to join in!

I would participate in any discussion, but I would not in the actual comm event because I refuse follow your "rules". I watch Code Geass when I want, not when people tell me it's okay to.

...Overreacting much?

It's just a suggestion (and let's be honest, if you went ahead and marathoned the whole rest of the series after watching the first episode for discussion the first week, and then went back and rewatched the second for the next discussion, nobody would ever know unless you said so).

Besides, some people (especially those of us who got into things late) might actually like the simulation of having to wait for the next episode like when the show originally aired.

i would totally do this if i hadn't just finished the entire series for the first time a few days ago. i don't think my heart could take watching it all over again so soon, lol ♥

I am all over this, but I don't think I can participate because my boyfriend and I are already halfway through a rerun of the series.

This is such a great idea though! It reminds me of the [livejournal.com profile] read_hp community, where Harry Potter fans read the entire series a chapter per day and then discussed it. It was really successful and tons of fun. I think a similar thing applied to Code Geass would be amazing.

This sounds interesting and a great way to review the series in its entirety. I like the one episode a week idea too since it will help drill down the focus. Though I imagine we could also discuss what the particular episode foreshadowed/contributed to the larger story (or contradicted horribly in R2), yes?

I'm hoping that's part of the point. Going through R1 and complaining along with the community about "hey they dropped this thread, I really wanted to see what they were going to do with that!" is as much a part of Code Geass for me as the robots.

I'm loving this idea. Once a week would be better than daily, I think, because then those of us with busy schedules could keep up, and anyone who missed the discussion post could catch up a little later.

I like this idea a lot. Gives me a good excuse to rewatch Geass again since it's been a while~ Also, I'd really enjoy reading and/or participating in discussions. The first time around I was usually too blown away to sit down and say something until it was too late and the next episode was out, haha. In those last weeks, the discussion posts were like terrible reminders that Geass was nearing its end...

So yeah, count me in~!

I would do the discussion, but I rewatch parts of various episodes pretty much all the time so I don't think I could stick to your schedule.
Date/Time: 2010-11-02 15:54 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] megalomaniageek.livejournal.com
I think the rule is important only in the sense that it has people watch an episode right before the discussion, and keeps the discussion on the topic of one episode. But if we watch episode 22 and I'm like "fuck it, I need to watch 23-25 right now, I can't stand it" then it's not like anybody would know. Still, for less exciting episodes that I'd never wanna watch two weeks in a row, it'd be better to stick to the schedule so you're not talking about an episode you saw a week ago with people who saw it an hour ago.
Plus some people like putting arbitrary restrictions on themselves so they can simulate the old excitement of the original airings. I still remember the first time I watched R2 when Suzaku hands Lelouch the cell phone with Nunnally on the other end and went OH SHIT WHAT'S GONNA HAPPEN NOOOOO I CAN'T WAIT A WEEK!!!
I'm mostly excited because I didn't get involved with the fandom until long after the series was over even though I watched R2 in real time. Part of me is glad, as I kind of I prefer to go through a series and form my own opinions without external influence (code trainwreck amirite guyz?!) but I really enjoy the discussions like the one above.

I was there for the Slayers re-watch! :'D

But yes, I would totally be interested in doing this for Code Geass! I've been buying the DVDs sporadically and I haven't watched the dub yet (well, I started, and so far it's fabulous, but I'm more than willing to re-start).

I think the idea is to watch it ourselves and immediately discuss it on the forums with it fresh in everybody's mind, but if we could rig that up it might be really fun. (We could also do the kludge version by having everybody start it at the same moment and chatting while it's playing.)
