So who got their Geass DVDs? I just got mine today and both discs are defective. The extras menu don't load for either. I haven't watched all the episodes to make sure they work but since I've already found a flaw, I'm not going to waste my time.

Also, got the regular edition of Part 1 and TRSI's product page said that they come with books and character sketches. They don't. Had I known, I would have shelled out a few extra bucks and gotten the LE. Disappointed in that. But since I have two copies (one for Fukuyama), I guess I'll return the unopened one to try to get an LE instead.

But of course this means that sending the DVDs to Fukuyama will be delayed until Bandai sends out replacement discs. *sigh*

Anyone else dissatisfied with the way Bandai is handling the situation? Reports of bad discs were coming in days before the release date yet they haven't addressed the problem at all and continue to ship out defective discs. And dude, this is Code Geass. You know tons of people are going to be buying it! Hell, I rarely ever buy DVDs but I love this series so much that I'm getting it and this is what happens.

Any idea when replacement discs will start shipping?

If I can get an LE set where the DVDs actually work, I'll probably make a region free copy and give both those as well as the working originals to Fukuyama, then I'll keep the replacement discs when they come in. Hopefully I'll be able to ship out faster that way. Of course it still depends on Bandai though. *sigh*

Well, with that said, you've still got time if you want to participate in the letters to Geass seiyuu + DVDs for Fukuyama! Please go here for all the details.

And a big THANK YOU to all who've sent in letters and pitched in for the DVDs~

EDIT: There's a Kirihara/Lelouch doujinshi tag??? .x________x;;;

Geez, I didn't know Bandai would do this, they did a really nice job with other series though like Suzumiya Haruhi. I hope everything will get fixed soon.

Ugh, still haven't gotten mine. :/ They shipped end of last week, so I'll let you know how they turn out next week when I get home. Did you try them on just one player or multiple?

i was looking for an official report on the defects. i was surprised that it wasn't mentioned over the weekend at otakon.

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/convention/2008/otakon/bandai-entertainment

everyone might want to post a reply on ann's forum. the mod sometimes has an 'in' with the company and might be able to get a response from them. bandai really should release an official apology or something.

or better yet.
spam their blog - http://www.bandai-ent.com/blog/

or i guess the official way is to to through their contact page.

i've always waited to get dvds...since not one u.s. company has had a good defectiveless record. :|

I actually asked them about it at Otakon, and they denied anything was wrong with the DVDs. Then another worker told me it wasn't that bad that only a "few" were defected.

My friend bought a box set and it didn't work all they did was give them 5 bucks off the next box set they bought at the con.

ah..i'm guessing they don't want to hurt sales by making an official statement.

hopefully, people who get defective ones will be able to get replacements fast and easily.

This is extremely disappointing of them. I'll think twice before I considering getting their DVDs again anytime soon.

Geez, what's up with this? I'm glad I put off ordering the DVDs now...o_O

I bought the box set from Best Buy and mine seemed to be okay. The only problem with it was on the first dvd and one of the extras wouldn't work, but I blamed that on my crap-tastic dvd player. That's unfortunate though that some of the dvds are defective.

This happened for the Gundam Seed Destiny ones too, I think.

I have two copies of the regular edition part one and both of them play fine on my PS3 with the latest firmware.

Ah. Makes sense. I had problems with my old dvd player which was 4+ years old and it had issues playing new discs.

When it finally just died, I got a ps3.

Just got my discs today, and so far spot checking has revealed no problems ... but I have yet to watch the discs all the way through, so I'll be doing that soon. My friend had issues with hers and Bandai was very willing to replace them (though I don't know if she's sent them in yet).

On the bright side, the LE boxset is a lot nicer (and prettier) than I was expecting from the pictures.

I got my part 1 set off Amazon because getting any decent anime where I live, even though we have an anime exclusive store that orders weekly, is a royal pain in the ass. From what I've watched so far, (ha, I'm watching dub) my copies seem to be fine. I'll give the first DVD a watch tomorrow all the way through to see if there are any problems with mine.

Ugh, just checked my dvds.
The first one doesn't work at all, but the second one seems fine. D;

I heard about the problem and thought it solve in a little bit. Guess I was wrong. I don't plan to buy the DVD's for a while then

This makes me extremely nervous to order my boxset x_x; Damn, and I just got my debit card too *cries* I was so looking forward to this release.

Damn you Bandei.

I bought the LE Box in-store from Fry's. Didn't have a problem at all with either disc, or the CDs....

I talked with Bandai's customer service guy at Otakon. He advised me to wait until Bandai released its second version, saying something about compatibility issues and Macrovision, but said Bandai will replace any defective DVD sets.

I ordered myself a copy of the LE Box last week. It should be arriving within a few days. When they do arrive, I'll take a quick look at them to make sure their working properly. I hope they do work, this makes me nervous now. xD

This is disappointing though, seriously. Bandai making this sort of mistake, for the.. *reads above comments* second or third time now? Jeez. I had more confidence in them before, but this takes the cake.

Both of my discs work fine.

Note to all:
really pay attention to ep 9.
It's the most defective one I've heard about.
my ep 9 plays, however it pauses at least 4 times during it.

watched eps 7 & 8 today and they play fine. So I got off lucky, and the pauses in ep 9 are the only issues.
well there was a couple 'scrambles' on the first disc, but nothing to complain about. ^^

After hearing this, I'm actually somewhat glad that I haven't gone out and bought the DVDs yet. I'd hate to waste my money on defective merchandise.

Just checked Disc 1 today. My PS2 is the best DVD player in the house, and it skips alot. DX

I just sent an angry (yet polite, somehow) "REPLACE MY DVDS, MOTHERFUCKER!" to Bandai. They'd better respond to that one. D
