I don't know if this has been discussed before, but does anyone else, like me, think that maybe, maybe, Lelouch's feeling for Nunnally surpass those of an ordinary brother? Maybe I've just read too many mangas that end up involving incest, but it just seems that Lelouch is going the extra mile for her. Any thoughts?

EDIT: I suppose I should have stated my case better with evidence rather than turning it into a free for all where people think I'm pulling this out of my butt 'cause I have no problems with incest (and yeah, maybe it's because I don't have any brothers) in animanga.

Yes, I admit, it's not unnatural to want to protect your family. After the death of his mother, Lelouch had only Nunnally by his side and because of her injuries, she required his attention. For the longest time, I didn't think anything of his devotion to her, but after certain events, it just makes everything come a little more into perspective.

I care about my family, and tons of people really love their siblings. I'm not heartless and would let anyone in my family die without trying to help them, but if I had Lelouch's power, I would fight for the innocent as much as my family. He claims to fight for the rest of the world, but deep down it's all for Nunnally's sake. Without her, he probably wouldn't do what he is.

In the 6th Picture Drama, Milly teased that Lelouch and Nunnally's love was beautiful but dangerous (even if she was joking, there were obviously grounds to make this assumption).

In Episode 21, when Nunnally and Euphemia were talking, Nunnally made the comment that when they were children, the two girls used to fight over who would marry Lelouch.

In Episode 23, as he fired the shot that would ultimately kill Euphemia, he admitted that she was his "first love". So he obviously had, at some point, stronger than typical feelings for his sisters.

But the turning point for me, at least, was in Episode 11 of R2. If anyone recalls, Xingke and Tianzi obviously loved each other, despite the age difference (and if people are going to spazz about the incest claims, what about the pedophilic feelings between them? He is a heck of a lot older than she is). So, not knowing whether to force Tianzi into a political marriage, or allow her to be with the one she loved, he called Shirley who told him "Love is power. Falling in love with someone gives you great power. Thinking about this person every single day...jumping into waterfalls and screaming the person's name," and when she asks, "Don't you have someone like that Lulu? To dedicate more than you normally would for someone," he immediately thought of Nunnally with his look of utter realization on his face.

There is such thing as being attracted to your siblings, and it's something some people can grow out of. Whether it's "penis envy" or whatever you call it, some girls are attracted to their fathers, some boys to their mothers, some children to their siblings. So for that to be in anime, something that dips in every taboo available, pretty well, it's not completely impossible. I think you've read too much incest manga, and you should probably stop.

She's the only family he has left, I would hope that you would go the extra mile, too. :/

Hmmm....nah I doubt it. I just think that Lelouch really cares for his sister.
It's just a family/brotherly aspect of him to go all the way for his sister. Anything past brotherly, is just...not possible. xD

To be honest, I could see it played either way. It's the same with Euphemia and Lelouch too. |D It just depends on personal interpretation.

I doubt Lelouch would ever think of his sister in that way. Sure, he's obsessed about her, but he's also convinced that she's too pure of heart for the dark world she lives in ; her purity is way more important to him than his own feelings, so he will never allow himself to touch her, even if he was very, very tempted.

Spoilers: Lelouch is a siscon as well as a lolicon.

Seriously, though, I guess Lelouch just wants to grant Nunnally-imouto's wish for a kind world because his mother is dead and dadoo pretty much tossed Imouto, Lelouch-mama and him aside, aka too much tragic stuff and less kindness. Since Imouto is his only sibling (in b4 Rolo), he wants to grant Imouto's only wish.

Hmm. It seems to me that his feelings for Nunnally definitely surpass that of a normal brother/sister relationship (I'm saying that based upon the real-life relationships between brothers and sisters that I've seen). But just look at Cornelia and Euphemia - they were very close as well. I think that they just learned to depend on each other because their parents weren't really there all that often.

Also, Lelouch only had Nunnally when he was shipped off to Japan. She was the only family that he had left, so he because fiercely protective of her. I think you just need to look at what they've been through and realize that during those times they only had each other. If that wouldn't form a strong bond, I don't know what would.

But the incest could be possible. I doubt the writers will make it that way, but they've probably thought about it because of Lelouch's obsessive nature toward her. You would have to be blind (no pun intended) to miss the intensity between them and not think that something was a little suspicious.

Sorry. That was all over the place; what I'm trying to get at is that they only ever had each other. But the incest is still a plausible thought because of their unusually strong relationship - it doesn't really sick me out either.

While I find the thought of Lelouch loving his sister on more than a brotherly level amusing, I think it's just an aspect of the anime that Sunrise likes to use to mess with people (see the Picture Drama of R1 where they're all at Clovisland, or whatever). Lelouch only cares for her on a brother-sister level, and not more.

If you've ever seen Fullmetal Alchemist, it's kind of like what Edward and Alphonse do for each other. You'd think that sacrificing your limbs would be a bit much, even for your only living family member, but Edward, like Lelouch, cares about his sibling enough to sacrifice his life. That doesn't necessarily equate to romantic feelings. even if I think they do, mmm Elricest

I agree with Fruitsbaby. It depends.but then again since there is doujinshi out there putting them both "MORE" then siblings

I think it's just another example of typical animu sibling relationships, the whole sister complex is a common theme.

And really, if he was inclined to bone his family members, he'd at least go for Cornelia amirite?

I think it's the incest manga. xD

You have to remember that Nunnally is, basically, his only family. When you're a prince that's banished from his country and declared dead, you'd value the family members you have left. On top of that, Lelouch was always a little broken inside from the very start of the series, so the fact that he'd do anything and everything for her makes sense.

I would take over the world for my sister or my little brother :| I'd go every single extra mile.

I disagree. I'm just as devoted, if not more, to my brother as Lelouch is devoted to Nunally.

While it's fun to joke about, it doesn't come across that way for me. I always thought the Lelouch/Suzaku relationship had the potential for the same degree of intensity, like it was the three of them against the world until Suzaku decided not to play. It just seems to be part of Lelouch's personality that when he cares about someone, he cares about them, and Nunnally has been there the longest and needed him the most.

I don't think they have a ~weird incest thing~ going on.

I do think Lelouch uses her as an excuse to do everything he does.
He's so damn out of touch.
Something tells me if he was all "But I did it for you!!!" Nunally would be all "ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS."
Date/Time: 2008-08-14 20:35 (UTC)Posted by: [identity profile] coldmero.livejournal.com
I totally agree with you.
I mean, he has lots of other family, but Nunnally was always his most precious person.
I've always thought, without a doubt, that Lelouch had some sort of romantic feelings for Nunnally.

But then again, maybe I've just read one-too-many incest manga series.

I do think their situation is more than "normal" siblings, but I don't think of it in an "incest" way. Nunnally is all Lelouch has left (even with Euphie, think about how long he'd been separated from her). In his mind, if he doesn't take care of her, he has nothing left. Besides that, with Nunnally blind and stuck in a wheelchair, I'm guessing that Lelouch had to do a whole lot for Nunnally, more than a "normal" brother, because of her situation. Nothing romantic or sexual there -- just a family relationship taken to the extreme.

Though, I think that even if Lulu says it's all about Nunnally, there's definitely more to it than that (daddy issues are up there, oh definitely).

Incest is canon! See: Lelouch to Euphemia and vice versa. This is not a surprise! Nunnally and Euphemia used to talk about who would marry Lelouch. Really, it's not too much of a leap. xD

Also! In R2, see the scene about love and moving mountains and Lelouch IMMEDIATELY thinking of Nunnally when figuring out how to respond to someone when it comes to being in love. Uh. Yes!

I think the level of extremity to which the story has Lelouch go in Nunnally's name fuels a sort of "more-than-family" vibe in some ways. Sunrise probably does it on purpose and keeps it completely ambiguous just for that reason. They play with a similar dynamic with Cornelia and Euphemia, Lelouch and Rolo (though only incest if you go to Ashford Academy), and (though not incest at all) Lelouch and Suzaku. That sort of "I do not act within the bounds of usual familial/platonic relationships for this person" behavior. Whether it be unusually touchy-feely, obsessive, possessive, all-consuming, or megalomaniacal behavior.

Yeah, I can definitely see where you're getting the vibe from. XD

From the perspective of a mother, and as a woman with many young nieces and nephews, I can say that it is not at all uncommon for children to go through a phase of wanting to or thinking they can marry siblings (They are simply too young to put any real concept of sex into the equation. So, it seems like a good idea to them). I always thought it was pretty clear that when Nunnally and Euphemia talked about fighting over who would marry Lelouch, it was just little kids playing.

Whether or not there is an actual incest vibe to the show, or Lelouch's relationship with Nunnally in particular? I think there are about a million sexual currents running through this show (and that's one of the aspects that keeps viewers so revved up about it ^_^). It's been said before, but the show's creators want to please all kinds of fans.

Of course it's not unusual to see this sort of fan interpretation, as most of fandom doesn't really seem to grasp what incest really is because they just... read too much manga idk. In reality, incest more often than not involves molestation and disturbing power imbalances, rarely is the situation not abusive. It's true that Lelouch and Nunnally don't have a particularly healthy or normal relationship what with all the rebellion shenanigans, however I think one of the most important parts of Lelouch's character is that he cares about Nunnally's well-being more than anything. He would never abuse her in that manner. Yeah it's true that old royal families used to marry people off to their cousins and shit but lulz that was like centuries ago before modernity rolled in and crashed da party because people started to b like... "guys thats like.. gross.. STOP IT GUYS"

But fandom will romanticize incest just because it's so sexy and angsty and omg their love is so tragic and forbidden :) So w/e.
