So I was piddling around with the Picture Drama today, and I noticed something different between two translations in the last line of 23.95.

According to [livejournal.com profile] chansonxchou here, Suzaku says:
Lelouch...to me, a person who was tied up with his upbringing, you were the man who became my(boku) first enemy...and my(ore) worst friend....

However, I was watching [gg]'s subs of 23.95, and they have it translated as:
Lelouch. To me, who was bound by family ties since birth, you are my primary enemy and also, unfortunately, my best friend.

The discrepancies make a world of difference and suggest completely different things about Suzaku.

I know that [gg] has mistranslated other stuff in this Picture Drama already, but I was hoping that some kind, Japanese-speaking soul here would be able to give their opinion about the correct translation of this line.

For reference, I've uploaded the relevant clip here (sendspace). Thanks!

Chansonxchou is completely right. It's a mistranslation. The significance of this line relates to Lelouch's speech at the end of the Picture Drama in the first DVD which shows you how their opinions of each evolved and differ by the end of the series. While gg is the best source for good subs for the first season, they have their fair share of translations. I hope some very capable group decides to sub R2...

IF R2 gets subbed, that is.

chansonxchou's translation is a direct translation of Suzaku's line. gg's had another take to that which... despite the mistranslation was supposed to be the complimenting Lulu's line on the first picture drama. but for that, the first one was more suitable.

That would be because the last three picture books weren't actually done by gg. They were done by digitalpanic but released as gg. Digitalpanic uses a Chinese -> English cross translator. gg's usual translator was straight Japanese -> English, but they disappeared before DVD 7 was released. The Domino's releases, aka operation make gg's scripts suck less, corrected this error plus some other errors in the last 2 picture books.

Young!Suzaku: I...lost contact with Toudou-san.. So, Kirihara-san said to go over to the General Headquarters
^-- soushirebu ni ikite, kirihara-san ga. Suzaku is saying that Kirihara --> HQ.

Actually, I think it's gg redoing some of their translations?

When were these released? If I can, I'd like better translations of the whatever it is that they released as well.

Yeah, it's them re-doing it.

You can get the releases in gg's IRC channel or on e-Mule.
