Does anyone have any ideas about who killed Marianne? And why? I think it might have been V.V., but what would be his motive for killing her? What would be anyone's motive for killing her? Why not kill one of the other wives? Why was she the one that was murdered? No one would gain anything. I mean, even if it was a mistake that she was killed and the true objective was to kill Lelouch and Nunally. Lelouch and Nunally had absolutely no shot at the throne, so there would be no point in taking them out. The only was she was important (as far as I know) was that Cornelia looked up to her and she was Lelouch's and Nunally's mother. But then again, she must have been important enough for Jeremiah to be assigned to protect her.
Any ideas?

Whoever killed Marianne, I have a feeling that they are far from the people Lelouch has been suspecting. I mean, think of it, he's based an entire revolution on this one event in his life, and yet he doesn't definitively know who did it. I wouldn't be surprised if it turned out to be some Japanese military entity, rather than Charles' goonies.

The truth will come out in the last episode after Suzaku and Nunnally have consumnated their marriage. Then rocks fall and everyone dies.

I mean... He was seen with V.V. where the Emperor is, who knows how Lelouch works. I get the feeling he told Jaramiah how to act and what to do in order to earn Lelouch's trust. He's their spy, working inside the rebellion forces for the Emperor.
That's my theory, anyway. I'm sure we'll find out soon enough. As for Marianne, from the spoiler pictures I saw, we'll be learning about her back story in the not so distant future which may answer all those questions.

--Then again this is most likely is because I read too much xxxHOLiC and Tsubasa.
Marianne was important due to just being a wife of the Emperor period, she's a royal family member. However she knew V.V. (obviously given what his and Charles's relation is) and possibly she knew C.C. as well. Most likely her death was either related to Geass or the Sword of Ashaka.

If anyone in Code Geass ends up being a clone of some kind, I'm going to choke a bitch.

Though, that said, I doubt my own theory and tend to think that Jeremiah's just playing Lelouch. At least that's what I like to think because otherwise it seems like things would be horribly unbalanced with so much in Lelouch's favour, no matter how many friends and family he's lost.

Leave it up to Sunrise to balance it out again.:D From what I've gathered on 2ch, Lelouch would find himself in a pretty crappy position around episode 17. So maybe a few allies that would stay for him no matter what was just the thing he needed, because he's going to lose a lot more from now on.

I could see Marianne doing it. She loves her children more than anything, and if she was aware of the plot that V.V. and Charles have, if it hurts her children? I could see her doing something drastic like setting up her own death. She did dismiss the security for that day.

The fun of speculations~

That's an interesting idea. Marianne was killed and then C.C. was overthrown by V.V., making him the leader. It also brings in the question if you need to have a powerful contractor (ie Charles, Lelouch
maybe Marianne) to be the leader of the Cult. Then again it might just be who has the most knowledge or support.(no subject)

especially when they decide to rewrite the plot and extend it at the last minute.I also think Anya is involved with Marianne's death, because like the above people have said, if Anya is a clone of Marianne, I might just have to kill myself.

I have this pet theory that C.C and Marianne were like, BFFs, and C.C. got all angsty later on because she 'failed to protect' or Hell, may have accidentally caused it, and that is why she's so set on protecting Lelouch, to 'keep Marianne's dream alive?'
...Well, this was all inspired by a great C.C.xMarianne fic I read a while back, but I still think Marianne and C.C. had a bigger relationship besides post-death chats and perhaps Geass giver to Geass user type thing.
Hell, with the direction this show is taking, they could have been fraternal twin sisters...(no subject)
But, to be honest, I think whatever his final decision will be, Viletta will have something to do with it. Or maybe I'm just hopeless. As for Marianne, I don't think her death was strictly politics. Wasn't she an honorary knight working with Charles or something? I don't really remember the exacts, but she could have posed a threat to Britannia, so they had her killed? Just, whatever Sunrise throws at us it better not be lame D:

With that said, I have a feeling that Anya and Marianne are related in someway, and even as far to say as they might be the same person. Anya has a picture of Lelouch in her phone but does not mention much about it. If that's the case, Marianne staging her own death to be revived by the cult in a younger body (Anya) is looking a bit more believable. Also younger Marianne from images scanned on the comm, looked a lot like Anya.
C.C. and Marianne's relation (whatever it may be) isn't farfetched either, C.C. has been talking at some points of the Season 2 (during her 'monologues') to Marianne(?) much like she was talking to a certain someone in Season 1.
It seems a bit left field though. But with quite of the twists so far, sometimes left field might be closer to what might really end up happening.
Just my thoughts.

Although, it'd be an interesting final twist if Lelouch found out that the Emperor really didn't have anything to do with her death, and that it was terrorists (or whatever the official excuse was).

Hmm~ I agree with this point. He did say his assignment to protect Marianne was his first mission...
